Essential Functions (Job Duties)
WSU Center for Urban Studies is seeking a full-time staff person to provide operational support for the AmeriCorps Urban Safety (AMUS) Program. AMUS aims to address public health and safety issues for Detroit residents, especially its children and youth. The program recruits local volunteers (AmeriCorps service members) to support and engage residents. The Research Assistant will manage aspects of volunteer recruitment and oversight, while working in collaboration with colleagues to support other areas of program operations.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES

Become fully knowledgeable about national AmeriCorps requirements, policies, and procedures; and diligently adhere to AmeriCorps guidelines in all aspects of program operations.

Read and internalize policy documents; recognize ambiguity in guiding documents and seek out clarification; and translate policies into protocols, checklists, and other tools to help ensure compliance.

Plan and carry out activities to recruit new AmeriCorps service members and meet quarterly enrollment targets (update position postings, proactively identify networks and pathways for promoting the position, circulate recruitment information to key contacts, organize and facilitate information sessions for prospective candidates, present information about the service position and answer questions, etc.).

Assist program director and program coordinators in the recruitment process of AmeriCorps members, including: a) reviewing application materials in Egrants (Federal AmeriCorps.gov); b) scheduling interviews; c) maintaining records of interview assessments; and d) notifying non-interviewees.

Assist program director on program operations unique to AmeriCorps, including: a) completion of CNCS-mandated member paperwork and AmeriCorps contract; b) enter enrollment data into OnCorps and Egrants enrollment; c) completes five CNCS-mandated background checks for each onboarding AmeriCorps member (Fieldprint, Truescreen, iChat, NSOPR, MSOPR; d) train members on OnCorps bi-weekly timekeeping procedures; e) assist program director in submitting quarterly progress reports into OnCorps; f) conduct CNCS-required random verifications of enrollment data entered by AmeriCorps members; and g) prepare for annual financial and program site visit.

Support program director in: maintaining financial reimbursement records for grants; compiling financial reporting materials to Michigan Community Service Commisssion; and preparing financial information for quarterly/annual grant related reports.

Coordination of CWS students, including: recruiting/interviewing students; verifying timesheets/webtime; coach peer mentor students to provide support to other CWS student.

Assist program director in: a) compiling materials (i.e., identification, stipend amount, hourly rate, tax forms) for AmeriCorps members, AMUS technicians, CWS students for submission to Business Manager for EPAF processing; and b) preparing for annual CWS audit from Career Services.

Unique Duties

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree is required; a graduate degree (or working towards a graduate degree) is desirable

Prior supervisory or coaching experience and/or marketing/promotion experience is an advantage

Prior professional experience working in a public service organization (e.g. governmental agency, university, nonprofit is an advantage

Familiarity with AmeriCorps programs and policies is highly desirable

Must be detail-oriented and attentive

Must demonstrate ability to organize, manage, and track multiple projects/priorities at a time

Must be self-motivated, able to initiate and complete tasks independently, and proactively plan and prioritize work activities to meet deadlines

Flexible and adaptable style; must demonstrate ability to anticipate project needs, problem solve, and think creatively about how to leverage available resources and relationships

Must demonstrate ability to collaborate, work inclusively, and establish positive relationships with people of diverse cultural backgrounds (including team members, prospective service members, community partners, and other stakeholders)

Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to provide clear instructions and patient guidance to assist members in completing tasks; ability to present effectively to diverse groups

Must have willingness and demonstrated ability to learn new systems and software as required

Previous experience with online data management and reporting systems used by AmeriCorps (eGrants and/or OnCorps) is an advantage
