Coordinator - Veterans Success Center (Temporary Position)

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Summary:
Serves as Compliance/VA Certifying Official for the university. Advises all students receiving Veterans' Administration educational benefits from initial entrance testing through to graduation. Monitors and tracks all course work taken by students and is responsible for maintaining appropriate and accurate records as required by administrative regulations.

Reviews all submissions to the Veterans' Administration and verifies the accuracy of those submissions. Ensures compliance with the VA rules and regulations. Interprets test scores, including ACT, SAT, CLEP, DSST and Accuplacer and recommends appropriate academic level.

Informs students of specific admission and registration procedures and counsels them regarding career and/or degree options. Ensures those options are compatible with educational and personal plans and goals. Informs veterans regarding their eligibility for education benefits. Evaluates student eligibility using criteria from the various federal rules and regulations governing veteran eligibility. Informs students regarding their eligibility for VA benefits. Determines special situations and/or needs of incoming students and refers them to the university's Community and Veteran services.

Coordinates the certification of VA Chapter 31 rehabilitation students with case workers in order to meet their unique and/or special needs. Coordinates flight training certification with the various providers to ensure they are VA SAA approved and ensures that students are comply with VA Regulations.

Counsels with students regarding their academic performance and determines alternatives to help them out of academic difficulty.

Prepares appropriate VA documentation requesting payments to students for enrollment in approved programs, including changes to enrollment status. Prepares and submits appropriate forms, letters, and approvals for VA tutors and certifies enrollment. Submits requests for approval each semester or block, for appropriate pay information.

Reports the progress of all VA program students with department chairpersons, faculty members and other university officials.

Prepares annual report for the SAA at the Board of Regents regarding the program offerings including any significant changes to programs or policies at the university.

Evaluates official transcripts of military training for acceptance of military related course work and on-the-job training/experience.

Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in a directly related field of study or a combination of education and experience totaling four years.
