Manager, Employer Relations & Government Internships

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director of Internship Services, manages employer relations processes and relationships with key university partners. Develops and maintains relationships with high level university partners for academic programs including internships. Trains internship staff on processes related to employer relations and government and international internships. Manages the day-to-day functions of governmental internships programs including the Utah Legislative internship program, Washington DC program, international internships, and other assigned high impact areas. Collaborates with employers and agencies to initiate and develop internships that will accommodate the needs of students, academic programs, and meet university internship requirements. Markets government and international programs and internship opportunities to students, faculty and administration. Manages student housing in DC and Los Angeles including contracts, rent payments, and contracted employees on-site. Counsels individually with students to assess needs and provide assistance in preparing and applying for internship opportunities. Manage budgets and scholarships associated with high impact internship programs. Assists students in registering for an internship to obtain college credit, and work with advisors and departments to find unique credit solutions for each student. Arranges on campus interviews and training workshops. Manages the organization and implementation of the Utah Legislative Internship Program and associated courses. Tracks internship performance data and reports regularly to the Director of Internship Services and other campus stakeholders. Maintains close working relationship with the Herbert Institute for Public Policy. Works closely with a variety of UVU departments and outside partners to fill high level internship opportunities with qualified students. Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in related field plus three to five years of related experience, including two years of supervisory experience OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling at least seven years.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of current social economic and employment conditions, trends, and job placement methods.
  • Knowledge of employment laws and university regulations affecting internships.
  • Knowledge of basic marketing principles, including creating and facilitating campaigns.
  • Knowledge of the effective use of social media for both marketing and employer relations.
  • Knowledge of job search, counseling, and career planning.
  • Knowledge of workings of federal, state, and local government.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of DC and surrounding area, workings of US Congressional internships, and application processes.
  • Skills with computer software (Microsoft Office) and other software as applied to managing student records, communication, report preparation, and related activities.
  • Skills in other multimedia software such as Canvas and Adobe Suite.
  • Excellent writing and composition skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and prioritization skills.
  • Creative, innovative, and detail-oriented.
  • Skills in managing and supervising others.
  • Ability to work with individuals from multiple authority levels and diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to manage several diverse projects simultaneously meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to be self-directed and to complete tasks without supervision.
  • Ability to build professional relationships with current and potential employers, and high-profile organizations and individuals.
  • Ability to assist students in developing academic and career plans.


Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a Master’s degree in Public Administration, Political Science, or other related field plus three years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling 7 years.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform standard duties in an standard office setting, with the occasional day long event requiring standing, walking, and lifting.
