Job Summary:
Provides instruction and academic support services. Provides instruction, support services, outreach, and other professional contributions to the mission and goals of the College. Develops, implements, and sustains a rigorous, high-quality music curriculum that serves the needs of both the transfer and general student populations. Develops and sustains strong relationships with area high school music programs and music-related community organizations. Collaborates closely with other visual and performing arts faculty and staff to integrate both curricular and co-curricular activities intended to support a life-long interest and participation in the arts.

Essential Functions:
1. Designs and delivers effective instruction as assigned through traditional, online, and hybrid formats, using course outlines approved by the College Curriculum Council.2. Organizes, schedules, and coordinates student concerts, recitals, juries, auditions, and music department activities, as well as collaborative community events.3. Actively recruits students.4. Advises students and holds posted office hours.5. Delivers supplemental instruction, as assigned.6. In collaboration with departmental colleagues, designs/selects, and implements appropriate assessment of student learning at the course and program level.7. Submits grades, attendance reports, and other required paperwork within prescribed timelines.8. Attends departmental, divisional, and college-wide meetings.9. Collaborates with academic administration in conducting program reviews and other institutional activities intended to promote continuous improvement in teaching and learning, including periodic curriculum reviews.10. Develops and maintains relationships with appropriate external constituencies (e.g., area high schools, community agencies, advisory committees).11. Effectively integrates the use of instructional technology in instruction, when appropriate.12. Remains current in the discipline taught as well as in current trends in teaching methodologies for their specific discipline.13. Participates in graduation exercises.14. Contributes to decision-making in a productive manner.15. Maintains the highest ethical standards in relationships with constituencies, research activities, and business dealings with and on behalf of the college, per College policy.

Other Duties:
16. Other duties as mutually agreed upon with the Instructional Dean.

Accountabilities:
Under the supervision of the Dean of Arts and Sciences, each teaching faculty member is responsible for satisfying the educational, administrative, and fiscal requirements inherent in their position. May supervise part-time faculty, paraprofessional and/or student employees.

Job Specifications:
Master’s degree in Music or related discipline OR Master’s degree and 18 credit hours of graduate work in the discipline. Teaching experience required, community college teaching experience preferred. Some evening/weekend work is required.
This is a 12-month contract with minimum course load of 36 contact hours annually. Workload will be spread between Fall, Spring and Summer terms as assigned, or as needed.

OTHER HIGHLY DESIRED QUALITIES:
Preferred qualifications include the following: Master’s or Doctoral degree in Music; Practical knowledge of traditional and non-traditional (alternative) music ensembles; Concentrations in Voice, Choral Music, Music History, and/or Music Education are preferred. Focus on experiential music learning; Understanding of the musical needs of music and non-music majors in contemporary and conventional music ensembles. Commitment to the value of diversity and the free and open exchange of ideas; technically competent particularly in the area of instructional technology, online instruction, and technology-based assessment practices; Commitment to the community college mission.
