Job Description Summary

The Department of Biosystems Engineering of the College of Agriculture at Auburn University is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Research Professor of Poultry/Livestock Production Engineering. This faculty position is a full-time, twelve-month, non-tenure track research appointment renewable annually contingent upon satisfactory performance and funding. Full-time positions are eligible for benefits, including health insurance. The projected start date is August 1st 2022.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to lead funded research projects and train graduate students as part of the National Poultry Technology Center ( NPTC ) research effort. The faculty is expected to collaborate in the development of externally funded research programming through competitive contracts and grants, gifts, and other funding sources that addresses needs within the poultry industry and related industry sectors. The candidate is expected to publish peer-reviewed journal articles in appropriate journals. Research program areas may include technologies that improve water and energy efficiency and resource availability, life-cycle analysis, and/or technologies to improve the success of precision poultry farming. Other instructional opportunities will be through extension training events that are offered to the poultry and livestock industries that will include farmers, equipment manufacturers, builders, banking/lenders, insurers, integrator companies, and other poultry related industry professionals. The faculty may occasionally assist other NPTC personnel in delivering hands-on laboratories in BATM 5140 Commercial Poultry and Livestock Housing – a course that is devoted to preparing the next generation of scientists and engineers to be able to design, operate and maintain modern commercial animal housing systems.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications are an earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Biosystems, Biological, Agricultural Engineering or closely related engineering field at the time employment begins. Other requirements are documented evidence of individual and collaborative research resulting in peer reviewed publications, demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with faculty, students, and industry to develop collaborative extension and research programs. Must be eligible and able to obtain licensure as a registered professional engineer. The candidate must possess excellent interpersonal communication, and organizational skills. The incumbent must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.

Desired Qualifications

Demonstrated record of securing extramural funding for research and extension programs, experience or coursework in water storage and/or quality engineering, poultry production experience and licensure as a Registered Professional Engineer.
