Summary

This position resides with the School of Medicine Technology Services (SOMTech) team in the Project Management Office (PMO), and reports to the Senior IT Project Manager with a dotted line to the Senior Communications Manager in the Office of the Chief of Staff, School of Medicine (SOM).

Oversees various system projects of a complex nature and works with assigned team members as well as SOM faculty and staff in identifying responsibilities, resources needed and developing schedules and budget to ensure completion on target.

The IT Project Manager will provide detailed work plans, documentation, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, and status reports for enterprise technology projects with an initial emphasis on the SOM web site refresh.

Ensures adherence to quality standards and reviews project deliverables for various units including Web Services & Communications, Application Services, and others.

Responsible for adherence to PMO trends, tools and software and coordinates unified approaches to follow in streamlining or enhancing project management processes.

Duties and Responsibilities

 Establish and maintain a Project Plan (scope, schedule, resources, budget, etc.)
 Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation to senior
leadership and stakeholders.
 Provide analyses and recommends actions to direct the solution of IT and resource management
problems.
 Manage work execution to the established budget (hours), schedule and priority for assigned
projects
 Apply expert knowledge in managing complex multi-phased projects in academic medicine
environment.
 Set objectives and monitors progress to ensure completion aligned with project specifications
including time and budget.
 Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in timely and
clear fashion.
 Ensure Quality Assurance (QA) in verifying successful production deployments
 Work closely with SOM Departments to understand priorities, capacity and constraints. Use
knowledge and professional relationships to steer project timelines and sequence work to
maximize delivery of deliverables.
 Understand, track, and communicate impediments, risks, issues and watch items.

Essential Qualifications

 Bachelor’s Degree. Four years of additional relevant work experience may be substituted for a
Bachelor’s degree. An Associate degree plus two years of additional relevant work experience
may be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree.
 Extensive project team participation and project management experience.
 Functional knowledge of website/application design and development, multi-phased web projects,
and related competencies in a team-based environment; writers, graphic designers,
programmers, and web developers
 Ability to assist in strategic planning of new projects, technologies and opportunity pipeline.
 Willingness and ability to quickly expand technical skills, capabilities, and understanding and
apply to solution development.
 Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

 Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) or qualifications as a Commonwealth Project Manager strongly preferred
 An advanced degree is preferred.
 Skilled in the full spectrum of web/application/digital strategy and production
