Drafting Lab Assistants (LAs) are responsible to assist students, faculty and staff using the Drafting Labs and seek to provide excellent customer service. LAs monitor the drafting labs for the safety of the students and security of the college computing equipment resources.

The Computer Labs are open Monday - Friday 8am-11pm; Saturday 8am-6pm and Sunday 12pm-6pm. The primary schedule we are seeking is Monday-Thursday 4pm - 9pm and Saturday 10am - 4pm, however coverage may be requested during any of the labs open hours.



Job Duties
Job duties include but are not limited to:

1. Computer Lab Operations. Familiarity with basic computer operations and software applications in the labs. Assist students, faculty and staff in lab usage. Performance is acceptable when:
  • Assist students, faculty, and staff with software or hardware questions.
  • Communicate the operations of the lab to students and faculty by describing basic lab functions and procedures.
  • Communicate with students and faculty regarding questions about the facilities and the college
  • Stock printers with paper.
  • Ensure all hardware and software in the lab is functional.
  • Submit ticket requests when issues are discovered with hardware or software.
  • Contact lab supervisors to offer feedback or to pass on important information regarding hardware or software issues.

    2. Development and Training. Maintain an adequate working knowledge of applications supported in the computer labs. Performance is acceptable when:
  • Utilize available resources to maintain skill and knowledge of computer lab supported applications and uses.

    Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity, may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. Scheduling, shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.



    Required Qualifications
  • Ability to work well with both faculty and students is required.
  • Well-developed communication skills are required.
  • Experience with Windows PCs & Windows OS.
  • Knowledge of some of the basic computer applications in the lab is required.


    Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience and capability with AutoCAD.
    Completion of JCCC DRAF 130 & DRAF 230 or equivalent classes.
  • Associate degree.
  • Two or more years industry experience.
  • Experience using various AutoDesk Educational Master Suite (AEMS) software (e.g. Revit or Inventor).
  • Experience in an academic environment.
  • Experience working with the public.
