The Department of Fine and Performing Arts in the College of Arts and Sciences ( CAS ) at Loyola University Chicago ( LUC ) invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track position for academic year 2022–23 with a specialty in Visual Communication. This is a one year, instructor appointment. We are a congenial, collaborative program, housed on Loyola’s beautiful lakeside campus. CAS / LUC provides opportunities for promotion based on demonstrated teaching excellence and service to the program, school, and university. The Fine Arts program offers a Bachelor’s degree serving approximately 130 undergraduate art majors in art history, sculpture & ceramics, drawing, painting & printmaking, photography, and visual communication. This search is part of a university-wide, multi-year hiring initiative designed to hire outstanding faculty members who are reflective of our diverse student body and committed to interdisciplinarity (i.e., working with colleagues across different subfields and disciplines). The position includes teaching four undergraduate courses per semester in visual communication. The position includes some service obligations, primarily participating in critiques for Senior Capstone and attending department meetings. Successful candidates must be prepared to teach undergraduate courses within a liberal arts context.
The ability to teach animation, color theory, and interactive design is essential. Qualifications
An MFA or MDes in Visual Communication from an accredited college or university is required, as is a minimum of three years professional experience in the field and three years college-level teaching experience. Candidates should demonstrate responsiveness toward and understanding of diverse student backgrounds, especially regarding socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, culture, ability/disability, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity. Candidates must be willing to support the mission of LUC and the goals of a Jesuit Catholic education. Physical Demands None Working Conditions None Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
