Job Description:

Job Summary

The laboratory of Dr. Michelle Mondoux in the Department of Biology at the College of the Holy Cross is seeking applications for a full-time Research Associate for 2022-23 to support an NIH-funded research project. The Mondoux lab seeks to understand how a high-glucose diet impacts fertility in the model organism C. elegans. This position provides an excellent opportunity to continue scientific learning and develop research skills, as well as an opportunity to mentor undergraduate students.

Minimum Qualifications

• The research associate will have an independent research project and will also assist in managing the laboratory on a day-to-day basis, including supply ordering and maintenance, reagent preparation, helping to train undergraduate research students, and supporting ongoing research projects. The research projects in the lab will focus on defining the cellular phenotypes and genetic pathways that regulate gamete survival and quality on a high-glucose diet. Techniques commonly performed in the laboratory include C. elegans manipulation and husbandry, genetic crosses, and cryogenic storage; DNA isolation, PCR, and DNA sequencing; and microscopy.

• Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, or related scientific field required, and previous lab experience in genetics, cell biology, or molecular biology preferred. Experience working with C. elegans, microscopy and imaging software, and/or experience mentoring undergraduates a plus. Candidate should possess good interpersonal and communication skills; excellent organizational skills, strong work ethic and a high motivation to learn.
