Position Summary

Information Resources & Technology (IRT) provides essential information technology services for campus operations and innovative technology solutions to facilitate the accomplishment of strategic campus goals.

The Director of User Experience, Web & Mobile Services reports to the Associate Vice President (AVP) for Academic Technology & Campus Engagement.

This Director works with the AVP in leading Sacramento State in the effective delivery and improvement of inclusive, campus-wide information technology services for diverse campus audiences including faculty, staff, and students.

This Director leads a team that has a high level of interaction with campus faculty and staff. The incumbent provides leadership and direct supervision of the following IT functions: web content management system, campus portal (My Sac State), Sac State Mobile, the central event management system (Trumba), Learning Management System (Canvas), Web accessibility reporting & monitoring, & compliance tools (Siteimprove), web development in general, and legacy web application development and support.

The Director represents IRT in leadership capacities for the Web Content Advisory Committee, the Student Technology Advisory Group, the campus Web Publisher's group and serves as a member of the Accessible Technology Initiative Steering committee.

The Director may also be expected to present to campus stakeholder groups on an as-needed basis, including the President's Cabinet, the Faculty Senate, the IT Advisory Committee, Academic Department Chairs, etc.

The Director will be expected to implement practices to enhance Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in all facets of this position.

The Director plays a key role in ensuring all campus digital content follows usability best practices and meets legal thresholds including accessibility compliance with Section 508/WCAG, digital information security policies and branding guidelines as defined in collaboration with University Communications Division. The Director is responsible for the Accessible Technology Initiative Web accessibility progress and reporting and serves on the ATI Steering Committee.

FLSA: Exempt

CSU Classification Salary Range: $ 4,583.00 - $ 13,750.00 per month

Hiring Range: Anticipated hiring range is $8,500 to $10,500 per month, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

Salary Grade/Range: 1

Recruitment Type: Regular (At-will)

Time Base: Full-Time

Pay Plan: 12 months

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm. Other hours as required.

Required Qualifications

1. At least five years' experience, including two at the enterprise level, leading user experience and/or web development services
2. Four-year BA/BS accredited college degree, preferably in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or a related field.
3. Experience in supervising the design, development, and maintenance of enterprise websites
4. Web application and database development experience
5. Experience with making web content and applications accessible to faculty, staff, or students with disabilities related to Section 508 standards
6. Project Management experience
7. Ability to supervise and motivate staff
8. Ability to think clearly and logically while not being bound by traditional methods
9. Demonstrated consensus building and relationship management skills
10. Demonstrated verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Preferred Qualifications

11. Master's degree or equivalent post-graduate work
12. Strong knowledge of web development best practices within the information technology field
13. Comprehensive experience working at all levels of a university on issues of web design and support, as well as appropriate use and template development
14. Experience in evaluation of enterprise applications for procurement
15. Demonstrated understanding of web support requirements in an institution size of 500 or more
16. Advanced knowledge and experience in user experience, web & mobile development tools & strategies
17. Evidence of experience developing clear and comprehensive service and support procedures with associated documentation
18. Evidence of excellent relationship management skills, including the ability to supervise and motivate campus-wide desktop support staff in a higher education environment
19. Demonstrated ability to define and recommend institutional policy and direction in the area of digital governance and/or user experience
