The Assistant Director will be charged with the responsibility of aiding in the facilitation of student learning, personal development, and leadership skill development of all students within the program. Assist in program and activity planning and implementation. Serve as case manager, secondary academic advisor, and mentor for individual students and "point of contact" for services for students, faculty, and staff. Develop curriculum and teach introductory seminar courses. Collect data on student performance and make corresponding recommendations for targeted interventions. Coordinate mentoring and tutoring programs. Supervise mentors and tutors. Manage specified budget. Request and analyze data reports. Coordinate course schedule. Aid in the strategic planning process of office services and events. Serve on applicable cross functional committees. Serve in the absence of the Director.

  • Aid in the coordination of program recruitment and serve on the new student selection committee.
  • Develop curriculum, course objectives, materials, and assessments and teach Silas Craft Human Development seminars.
  • Coordinate and manage professional and peer mentoring program.
  • Hire and supervise tutoring staff.
  • Hire and supervise federal work study students.
  • Oversee scholarship budget, work with Director to allocate funds accordingly.
  • Serve as cost center manager for assigned programming budget(s).
  • Oversee educational, cultural, and social activities.
  • Monitor academic advising process and issues.
  • Develop, coordinate, and manage Silas Craft Collegians Program affiliated course scheduling.
  • Provide secondary academic advising and personal coaching.
  • Oversee educational, cultural, and social activities.
  • Assist Director in the planning and execution of leadership training for professional and student staff.
  • Create and maintain student/cohort records within colleague database.
  • Coordinate service learning and study abroad opportunities in coordination with cognizant campus partners.
  • Serve on Silas Craft advisory and admissions selection committees.
  • Provide support for collecting/analyzing data and make recommendations for program changes.
  • Manage Silas Craft Collegian's website digital media platforms and external publications.
  • Track student progress and contact students regarding progress and interventions.
  • Respond to faculty/staff-initiated inquiries regarding students.
  • Respond to college-wide early alerts.
  • Collaborate with African American Learning Community, Howard P.R.I.D.E.
  • Provide leadership in the execution of strategic initiatives for the program, in conjunction with the Director.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Master's Degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Psychology, or related field preferred.
  • At least three years of experience in higher education instruction, advising, and/or student programming. Prior community college experience preferred.
  • Strong computer skills in EXCEL, Power Point or PREZI, Windows, Word, Outlook, and the Internet.
  • Two years of experience in community college teaching and course development preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability in designing and implementing learning outcomes assessment.
  • Website experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Colleague and Canvas preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • Strong presentation skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Regular attendance is a requirement of this job.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
