Project Manager

The Carey Project Management Office is seeking a Project Manager who will plan and lead school-wide strategic projects, producing project documentation, coordinating meetings with key stakeholders, setting agendas, and handling project communications. Reporting to the Executive Director for the Project Management Office (PMO), this position will recommend, create, and manage tools for tracking progress of projects, while integrating within the school the standardized tools, techniques, and best practices around project management and process improvement. In addition, this position will help to foster a culture of process improvement through the creation and embedding of best practices and assisting teams to utilize the frameworks in order to optimize processes.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work with key stakeholders across various departments to understand business requirements and needs
  • Create project documentation, including detailed project plans that contain clear objectives, realistic timelines, milestones, deliverables, staffing requirements, constraints, scopes, and defined risks following the PMO standardized templates
  • Create documentation for both existing and new business processes and flows
  • Prepare regular project status updates and summary reports
  • Organize project meetings with clear agendas and supporting documents; share meeting notes in a precise and timely manner
  • Successfully manage project resources, and deliver projects on schedule and within budget (as applicable)
  • Manage project closure and the transition to operational support; formally close out projects, documenting lessons learned
  • Provide project management support and training to departmental business managers and staff. Cultivate a project management mindset and ensure templates, techniques, and best practices are utilized
  • Identify opportunities for business process optimization/standardization, process re-engineering and process design to achieve business goals
  • Lead and facilitate process improvement initiatives within the school, from evolution to delivery, employing standardized process improvement methodologies
  • Monitor key metrics for performance and process effectiveness
  • Hold process improvement training workshops to empower departments to conduct their own process improvement initiatives
  • Share process improvement tools, techniques, and best practices within the school
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula*

* JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits (semester hours) may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

** Applicants who do not meet the posted requirements but are completing their final academic semester/quarter will be considered eligible for employment and may be asked to provide additional information confirming their academic completion date.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • LEAN Six Sigma Black Belt certification
  • Experience with modern project management/portfolio management platform
  • Experience working in a higher ed setting


Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Minimum 5 years of project management and continuous improvement experience or other related experience required
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification or other demonstrated process improvement experience desired
  • Self-starter, ability to work independently and exercise independent judgement under minimum supervision
  • Experience in managing medium- to large-sized projects within budget and on schedule
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem solving and interpersonal skills, and high attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities
  • Extensive knowledge of project management and continuous improvement methodologies and tool sets
  • Experience operating in all phases of the project lifecycle, from project initiation through project closure
  • Ability to communicate, motivate and persuade the project team, and gain support from management to achieve the desired project goals

Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
