Job Description

Description:

This position is responsible for serving as a liaison with Islander Athletics to engage students at athletic sporting events and lead the department's marketing team. The Activity Coordinator, under direction, provides professional and supervisory skills for developing, planning, promoting, and implementing student engagement, developmental programs, activities, and/or services.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate events and programs to engage students and collaborate with Islander Athletics events to assist in building a student fan base.
  • Serves as a Student Engagement & Success ambassador and liaison with Islander Athletics
  • Attends home athletic games during evenings and weekends (specifically for soccer/volleyball/basketball and occasionally for other sports)
  • Oversees Student Activities marketing. Establish working professional relationship with SEAS and University Center marketing, and Student Activities staff to promote the Student Activities office and its events. Establish and monitor marketing budget.
  • Co advises the student planning team for the annual Dance Marathon event and fundraiser.
  • Chair the planning committee for the Lighting of the “I” spirit event during Homecoming week.
  • Serve on standing committees including Homecoming and Waves of Welcome.
  • Responsible for administering budget, which entails keeping expenses in line with the specified line items, following all purchasing guidelines and keeping track of all expenses.
  • Establish working professional relationships with university faculty and staff, especially in pertinent areas such as Facilities, Scheduling, Athletics, Institutional Advancement, UC Operations, and Catering.
  • Establish short and long-term goals for each area of responsibility and report assessments.
  • Supervise, hire, train, and evaluate student staff and potentially a graduate assistant.
  • Oversee event program proposals, risk management, and assessment.
  • Participate in university and departmental committees and campus wide events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • One (1) year progressively responsible experience developing and implementing athletic and student activities programs (one year full-time or 2 years part-time/graduate assistantship).
  • Leadership experience in a student organization as an undergraduate/graduate.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills to be able to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community agencies.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating small to large scale university events.
  • Demonstrated experience in initiating and implementing leadership training for student leaders.
  • Ability to understand and interpret policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Capacity to multitask complex assignments in a fast-paced environment and to use technology to accomplish responsibilities.
  • Possess strong interpersonal, organizational and conflict management skills.
  • Ability to work within budgetary limits.
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in higher education or related field.
  • Experience with athletic programming/special events
  • Experience with budget development and management.
  • Ability to identify, develop and promote leadership opportunities for all students.
  • Proficiency to develop and implement marketing strategies for programs.
  • Ability to create and implement a comprehensive calendar of student-centered events.
  • Experience working with entertainment agents and contract negotiation. Knowledge of risk management, experiential learning, assessment techniques and diversity issues in higher education administration.
  • Experience presenting to large groups of 300+ people.


Salary:
  • $38,000-$40,000/Annual
