Staff Accountant

The College is looking for exceptional colleagues to join the MVCC community. We are currently seeking a full-time Staff Accountant in our Business Office. The Staff Accountant provides Finance/Business Office support for the Controller. Coordinates daily financial activities including but not limited to Accounting, Cash Management & Banking Services. Provides back-up in critical areas of Business Office where required.
Key responsibilities for this position include:
- Coordinates above-named functions as assigned, with daily emphasis on Cash Management & Banking Services;
- Monitors, maintains, and reconciles assigned General Ledger & operating accounts, including verifying the accuracy of source documents, and provide internal audit of documents as needed;
- Assists with month-end and year-end closing;
- Prepares and inputs monthly journal entries;
- Responsible for month-end required accounting and reporting;
- Assists with annual independent audit preparation, including updating fixed asset records and tracking revenue accruals;
- Prepares, reviews, and analyzes financial documents to insure they are completed and/or distributed accurately and on a timely basis;
- Assists the Controller with analyzing and projecting revenue
and expenditure trends;
- Provides appropriate information to the Controller for cash-flow and investment purposes;
- Assists the Controller with annual budget preparation tasks and preparation of budget trending reports;
- Processes billing and accounting for retiree health insurance, including coordination between the Business Office and Human Resources department;
- Assists, as needed, with Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Bursar functions;
- Works closely with the Bursar in assisting front desk and student operations during peak periods and seasonal projects;
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Controller.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field and t wo (2) years of relevant experience in an educational or comparable setting
- Professional communication skills, ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks, and strong computer skills (spreadsheets, word processing, use of accounting software applications)
- Master’s degree and one (1) year of relevant experience in an educational or comparable setting
