General Statement of Job

The KGCS - TV General Manager is responsible for the operation of the broadcast television station licensed to Missouri Southern State University. This position oversees and manages all aspects of the station, including finances and supervision of staff.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

Supervises and coordinates daily operations of KGCS - TV.

Ensures that KGCS follows the rules and regulations established by the Federal Communications Commission.

Coordinates broadcast programming to serve the Joplin community and the University.

Oversees station financial operations and seeks additional funding sources.

Assists with the educational training opportunities for MSSU students working at the station.

Oversees the scheduling and programming of KGCS-TV.

Completes weekly program schedules, sending information to listing services.

Prepares and completes programming logs for station operations; sees that local programs are ready for airing as scheduled.

Oversees budgeting and expenditures of KGCS-TV.

Supervises staff and works with broadcast faculty at KGCS-TV.

Coordinates station productions and operations with staff.

Maintains station records, meeting requirements established by the Federal Communications Commission for a licensed broadcast station.

Maintains station legal files to meet FCC requirements.

Maintains contracts with networks, music licensing, and program suppliers; completes necessary program affidavits.

Coordinates KGCS promotions on and off-campus, including news releases, creation of promotional spots, and other promotional campaigns.

Communicate with the campus, community leaders, organizations, and companies.

Maintain awareness of station needs and industry trends.

Archive station programs and records.

Coordinate and organize special events.

Coordinate student entries for competitions.

Coordinate annual student awards for KGCS.

Performs other related duties as required.

Education, Experience, and Licenses

A Master’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university is required.

A minimum of ten years industry work-related skills, knowledge, or experience is required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
