The Biology Department is home to more than 1,400 undergraduate majors (BA, BS in Biology and BS in Biochemistry) and instructs more than 17,000 students each academic year. Job Duties

The Department of Biology at East Carolina University invites applications for a nine-month non-tenure track appointment as a Teaching Assistant Professor or Teaching Instructor (depending on qualifications). This faculty position will begin in the Fall Semester 2022 with the potential for subsequent renewal and advancement in title. The successful applicant would contribute to the instruction of four (4) undergraduate level courses during each of the fall and spring semesters. The successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory biology courses for majors and/or non-majors and introductory microbiology courses for intended nurses. We expect the use of innovative teaching approaches and collaboration with departmental colleagues. Undergraduate advising and participation in professional service are expected.

Minimum Education/Experience

A Master’s degree and 18 graduate-level credit hours in Biology or a closely related discipline such as, but not limited to, Microbiology and Immunology, is required for appointment as teaching instructor. A doctoral degree in Biology or a closely related discipline such as, but not limited to, Microbiology and Immunology, is required for consideration for appointment as teaching assistant professor. All education must be documented from an appropriately accredited institution or certified as equivalent to required accredited education.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Prior teaching experience of at least one year and/or postdoctoral experience preferred.
