Statement of Job:

The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Southern Maine invites applications for a full-time, Lecturer position, with expertise in Microbiology, for our Fall 2022 Semester. This is a fixed length appointment starting on August 29, 2022 and will end in May 2023.

Primary duties will include, but may not be limited to, a lecture course in Microbiology and an associated Microbiology lab course, with multiple sections, and some lab course prep work. Full-time Lecturers teach four courses per academic semester. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and community engagement.

The Department of Biological Sciences offers a comprehensive program in Biology including Bachelor and Master of Science degrees. All programs of study provide students with a liberal arts education emphasizing the sciences and strong hands-on experience. Students have opportunities for enhanced practical experience through research positions, independent research projects, internships, and fellowships in science labs at USM, area biotechnology firms, and research institutes. Faculty members are currently engaged in active research in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Physiology, Ecology and Evolution.

This is an on campus, in-person teaching position and will pay an annual salary of $49,725.

Qualifications:
  • Terminal degree (Ph.D.) or an M.S. degree with extensive experience, in Microbiology or related field.
  • Teaching experience in higher education.
