Job Description

A full-time postdoctoral researcher position is available in the Scharf lab in the Department of Biological Sciences at Virginia Tech to study motility and chemotaxis, including chemoreceptors and the chemotactic adaptation system, in the symbiotic soil bacterium Sinorhizobium meliloti. Typical duties include genetic, behavioral, and biochemical based approaches to analyze chemoreceptor function and ligand interaction, as well as the role of adaptation proteins.

Required Qualifications

- Ph.D. in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or Biochemistry. PhD must be awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining.
- Evidence of a good publication record.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in molecular microbiology.
