The Vascularized and Composite Allotransplantation (VCA) Laboratory is searching for aResearch Technologistto assist with key experimental and organizational support to the daily activities of the lab. This individual will work under the close supervision of the Associate Scientific Director. Laboratory activities include support in the preparation and maintenance of cell cultures and execution ofin vivoandin vitrofunctional tests, and handling of rodent animals. Responsibilities include guaranteeing proper function, storage and cleaning of lab equipment and instruments. Typically works with biohazardous materials. Finally, the Research Technician will assist the laboratory manager in maintaining supplies inventory and ordering.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

    Assists with a variety of experiments where methodologies are established including tissue harvesting, isolation of cell population, cell culture, preparation of samples for flow cytometry, DNA extraction, PCR, RT-PCR, and develops or assists in the development of new techniques as needed. Assists in generating and analyzing data for grant submission and/or publication. Prepares, cleans, sterilizes, stores, and maintains laboratory equipment, glassware and instruments used in research experiments. Monitors inventory levels and orders material and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures. Prepares solution, reagents, and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures. Works collaboratively with research fellows, post-docs, medical students, and other laboratory personnel and is keen to troubleshoot.
  • Attends required weekly didactic research meetings.
  • Performs miscellaneous related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some related post-undergraduate work experience.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Lab Skills

  • Experience in using micropipettes and sterile tissue culture techniques; working with various chemicals and familiar with safety compliance; experience in molecular techniques (like ELISA, PCR); proficient at making dilutions; working with enzyme reactions; experience with handling rodents preferred.

Computer Skills

  • Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint; basic experience using Microsoft office.

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications:

  • HIPAA for Research (will train if hired).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel to off-campus locations for meetings and training.
