The Office of Inclusive Excellence at Bard College is seeing a visionary and creative Assistant Director to help lead its Equity & Inclusion programs. Bard College is a founding member of the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP). HEOP is central to the college’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that a Bard education remains accessible, regardless of socioeconomic status. Over the last ten years, the program has grown to support the development and academic success of students coming to Bard on a variety of equity-related scholarships such as the Early College Opportunity Scholarship and the Posse Scholarship (Atlanta & Puerto Rico).

The successful candidate will provide innovative leadership for the continued development of the access and equity programs at the college. Specifically, the position requires the ability to manage time, multi-task, and function successfully with little supervision. It includes providing pre-college awareness and assistance to participants and their families at target schools and their communities through the admissions process; training and supervising student staff; overseeing the Peer Mentor Program as well as small group advising (Mentor Network) and other events during the summer program and school year. Close collaboration is expected with other OEI staff and offices and programs across the college; including the Bard Learning Commons, Academic Advising, the Dean of Student Affairs Office, Health and Counseling Services, and the Office of Residence Life and Housing. This is a full-time,12-month position in Student Academic Affairs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Participation in the recruitment and admission of new students
• Assisting in the planning and implementation of a pre-matriculation summer orientation program
• Working individually with students in an advisory capacity
• Consulting and collaborating with appropriate members of the College community to develop academic and other support services for students
• Supervision of the OEI Mentor Program
• Supervise Kappa House student staff
• Support the Passion to Persist Stem Program
• Work with campus partners to host workshops (academic/social/personal)
• Experience advising students and working with faculty to develop and provide support services.
• A minimum of 1-3 years related college or university experience
• Detail-oriented, organized, and have excellent personal, oral and written communication skills; knowledge of computer software applications

Preferred Qualifications:

• The successful candidate will have 3-5 years’ experience working in a college setting
• Master’s Degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field is preferred
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, written, and oral communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a range of individuals across the college; proven ability to provide training to students, faculty, and staff
• Knowledge of small, liberal arts institutions preferred
• Ability to build relationships with and support a student body that is broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, gender identity, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion
• Experience with managing budgets and reports
