Job Description

This position serves an essential leadership role within the Office of Student Engagement. It provides direct supervision to three full-time staff members as well as support to one graduate assistant.

This position will research, plan, and implement the engagement experience at Syracuse University. This will include a robust late night social program called “Orange After Dark” with both on-campus and off-campus programming, as well serving as director of oversight and advising for University Union (the official programming body for SU).

This position additionally will provide support out of their area, including Traditions Commission, Pop Up Programming, Summer Programming, and marketing efforts within Student Engagement.

Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Higher Education, student administration, counseling, or related field.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in higher education and/or student affairs administration.
  • 3-4 years of experience with large scale campus programming, advising student organizations and contract negotiations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, written, and oral communication/presentation skills.
  • Experience working with a committee in researching, planning, and implementing successful late night campus events a plus.
Job Specific Qualifications
  • This position requires the ability to read, edit and negotiate artist and venue contracts and house riders.
  • This position will also require a current and advanced knowledge of best practices as it relates to late night social alternatives programs.
  • A working knowledge of student development theory and the ability to work within a diverse constituency.
Responsibilities
  • Advise University Union, the official student-run programming board of Syracuse University, executive boards for Concerts, Performing Arts, and Cinemas.
  • Assist with implementation and assessment of large-scale campus programming such as the annual juice jam music festival (9,000 students), Block Party Concert (13,000 students), Performing Arts programming (1,500 students), and weekly Cinemas screenings (400 students).
  • Consult and advise annual $1.8 million dollar budget for large-scale university programming and event-generated revenue.
  • Handle profit/loss statements, forecasting, income statements, and balance sheets.
  • Empower and provide developmental opportunities for students to practice responsible fiscal management.
  • Create, negotiate, and execute artist and vendor contracts.
  • Assist students in generating offers, booking artists, negotiating contracts and technical and hospitality riders.
  • Orange After Dark ( OAD ): Research, plan, and implement late night programs for Syracuse University. This includes a very robust event calendar with both on-campus and off-campus programs, directed towards students that are looking for late night social events.
  • Research and collaborate with other units across the Division and University and try to streamline all late-night social programs into a more comprehensive and inclusive calendar for the entire student body.
  • Provide oversight and support for Orange After Dark ( OAD ): Research, plan, and implement late night programs for Syracuse University. This includes a very robust event calendar with both on-campus and off-campus programs, directed towards students that are looking for late night social events.
  • Create, implement, and support additional programming and streamline marketing with others in the department.
  • Will provide guidance and vision for programming with pop-up events to fill gaps in the calendars and logistics around summer programming needs.
  • Will provide and implement support for major campus events during SU Welcome Week and other key campus wide planning.
  • Create and build a streamlined effort with campus calendar and social media needs.
  • Supervision: Will supervise 3 professional staff and support of one GA.
  • Assessment: Coordinate an assessment/research initiative for Student Engagement which will assess the work that Student Activities implements, the impact of that programming and engagement opportunities and ensuring we are connecting with students and their needs.
  • Oversight and support efforts with the Traditions Coordinator with Traditions Commission. This key group provides planning with Senior Celebration, Winter Carnival, and National Orange Day. This position will assist and advocate for operation’s needs, provide high level guidance and support.
