As part of our strategic cluster hiring initiative, https://cul.colgate.edu/cluster-hire-initiative Colgate University Libraries is looking for a University Archivist and Head of Special Collections and University Archives. This is an open-rank position that provides leadership, vision, planning, and budgetary management for the Special Collections and University Archives. This includes the development, preservation, organization, and promotion of print and digital collections. As part of the outreach and engagement team, the University Archivist will work directly with students, faculty, university departments and programs, alumni, and community members. This reinforces the role of primary source materials as curricular resources. The University Archivist will preserve and make accessible the history of Colgate, and champion continued growth of the department’s digital collections. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a creative and collaborative approach to the implementation of strategic changes in the department’s procedures; ensure timely response to researchers’ needs; and develop innovative programs and exhibits drawing on the entire collection. The department has the opportunity to focus on incorporating diverse voices into these collections and more fully represent the Colgate experience. Finally, the Head of Special Collections and University Archives will work collaboratively with the members of the Picker Art Gallery and Longyear Museum of Anthropology to develop new pedagogical approaches to object-based teaching and learning and envisioning shared storage of collections in conversation with the Middle Campus Initiative for Arts, Creativity, and Innovation.
