Position Summary

The Director of the Student Involvement Center develops and implements innovative programs and services that promote student engagement, enhance the sense of community on campus, increase student retention, further student leadership development, and advance the educational value of the student involvement experience. The Center serves as the primary resource and administrative support for student government and approximately 60 different student organizations. This position will provide leadership in developing college-wide strategies for student success and is responsible for evaluating and identifying gaps to improve student engagement. The Director provides directional leadership for New Student and Family Orientation, the Environmental Center, and KDUR Radio.  The salary range for this position is $64,000 - $71,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package .

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Demonstrated experience hiring, supervising, and evaluating students and full-time employees
  • A minimum of two years as a mid-level administrator (e.g., Assistant Director and above) in Student Activities, Diversity and Inclusion programming, Student Development, or a related field
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to assessment and evaluation with a focus on continuous improvement
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Skills, knowledge, and experience specifically focused on the needs of black, indigenous, and people of color, LGBTQIA+ students, and first-generation students on a college campus
  • High-level knowledge of principles and procedures for leadership and student development
  • Demonstrated skill in the management of complex budgets
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Practical knowledge of environmentally sustainable practices
  • Experience working with a collegiate radio station
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products, such as Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and Excel
  • Ability to communicate in more than one language that is common to our student body (English, Spanish, Navajo, etc.)
Major Responsibilities
  • Oversee all professional staff in the Student Involvement Center, Environmental Center, and KDUR Radio
  • Administer and manage the Center’s organizational functions, including budget development, account administration, facility and equipment use, personnel management and evaluation, policy and procedure development, preparation of reports, and public relations
  • Supervise and provide campus-wide education around Sky Hub, a student-engagement platform and assist with co-curricular badges or transcript development
  • Cultivate and guide student organizations, including intentional leadership and educational program development, collaboration with other college departments for leadership development and training, and serving as formal and informal advisor to students and student organizations
  • Lead in the development and facilitation of leadership assessment, education and development through a proven framework (StrengthsQuest, etc.).
  • Overall responsibility for New Student and Family Orientation, including supervising the Assistant Director and Coordinator of Orientation and Transition Programs
  • Mentor student and professional staff members on career-related skills, interpersonal communication, leadership, and other aspects of personal and professional development
  • Lead assessment strategies for the Student Innovation Center, Environmental Center and KDUR Radio to include the assessment of student need, student satisfaction, and student learning
  • Prepare annual reports identifying successes, challenges, and program modifications related to the budget, participation, and assessment data
  • Oversee a comprehensive marketing strategy that promotes Student Involvement opportunities to the campus community
  • Work collaboratively with campus committees and departments to facilitate awareness of the Student Involvement Center and to develop joint programming
  • Manage multiple projects effectively without direct supervision
  • Chair the Institutional Fee Review Board
  • Serve on the Commencement planning team, including recruiting and training volunteers
  • Execute contract negotiations, project planning, goal setting, project analysis and assessment
  • Assist with planning and implementation of several annual campus-wide events including Welcome Week, Orientation, Commencement, etc.
  • Serve as advisor to Associated Students of Fort Lewis College (student government) and the Financial Allocation Board
  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
  • Maintains knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility including the American with Disabilities Act and Section 508
  • Produces and remediates digitally accessible materials in accordance with FLC (Fort Lewis College) standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $64,000 - $71,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package .
