Chief Technology Officer

Texas Southern University (TSU) is seeking well-qualified, innovative, dynamic candidates for the position of Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Reporting directly to the Vice President of Business and Finance, the CTO is an executive and technology leader who thrives in challenging, fast-paced organizations delivering advanced technology systems, solutions, architecture, and applications.

Located in Houston, Texas, TSU is heralded as a pioneer and has distinguished itself by producing a significant number of African American students who have obtained post-secondary and advanced degrees. The university’s enrollment has grown from 2,303 students to more than 7,500 undergraduate and graduate students from across the world. Although initially established to educate African Americans, TSU has become one of the most diverse institutions in Texas.

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) recognizes the essential role people and process improvement hold in focused transformational change in support of teaching and learning. OIT understands the role of enabling TSU students, faculty, and staff to succeed through operational support and by providing innovative, sustainable technology solutions. The successful candidate will be an experienced and compassionate leader who has expertise in defining high-level design, instituting policy and standards, and improving architecture’s overall capabilities. The successful candidate will provide strong problem-solving and solution-building skills. The successful candidate must be a creative and innovative technologist looking at what could be.

The ideal candidate will have the following required professional qualifications and personal characteristics: A Master’s degree in technology, computer sciences, or any closely related field; A minimum of 10 years of experience in leadership and management of technology; Knowledge of in-depth knowledge of technology-enabled systems, web systems architecture, design, and development; Knowledge of hands-on experience with complex project management; Knowledge of applicable laws related to technology (i.e., TAC 202) at Texas State universities and institutions of higher education; Knowledge of compliance policies, procedures, and implementation; Knowledge of Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications; Proven ability to direct tasks necessary to ensure the movement of ideas through implementation; Outstanding communication, interpersonal and leadership skills; Excellent organizational and time-management skills; Effective negotiation and vendor management skills;  Proven experience of being a proactive problem-solver who pays attention to details;  Ability to work independently and to take initiative; Practices sound judgment and a high degree of professionalism and integrity; Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with all units across the university. Preferred but not required characteristics: A terminal degree in technology-related fields and experience in Higher education; Certifications related to Chief Technology Officer such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional; and any knowledge or experience with META and particularly knowledge or experience with race algorithms.
