The salary range for this position is $45,300 – $57,000. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Position Summary

The Center for Equity & Student Achievement ( CESA ) is the MSU Denver area in Student Affairs explicitly focused on students’ sense of belonging and engagement with a lens of equity and understanding of how their social identities contribute to their university experience and career pathways. CESA provides student support with an emphasis on addressing inequities experienced by students and houses several centers and programs aimed at increasing college retention, persistence, and graduation rates of historically underrepresented student populations.

Under the supervision of the Associate Dean for Equity and Student Engagement, this position will work with the Center for Multicultural Engagement and Inclusion ( CMEI ), the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, and campus and community partners to design and deliver programming, initiatives, services, and opportunities to support and create conditions that empower underrepresented BIPOC student populations at MSU Denver with particular attention to the experience of Native and Indigenous Students.

Duties/Responsibilities

• In collaboration with the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships and the Center for Multicultural Engagement and Inclusion, design, deliver, market, and evaluate the Indigenous & Native Peoples’ Grant that broadens and deepens Native and Indigenous students’ engagement at the University.
• Conduct outreach activities, respond to community needs, and develop and offer services to support and increase retention of Native and Indigenous students.
• Work closely with campus and community consultants to guide culturally conscious resources and programs for Native and Indigenous students.
• Work to develop, implement, and evaluate recruitment, retention, financial aid, and student support resources and programming for Native and Indigenous students.
• Support the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships in creating processes and procedures to document eligibility for the Indigenous & Native Peoples’ Grant.
• Strategize, create, and help implement a community advisory board of Native and Indigenous leaders.
• Work with newly established community advisory board with respect to documentation materials on tribal sovereignty and the Trust responsibility of the US Federal government toward Native and Indigenous Nations as well as tribal cultures, and historical trauma as it relates to students’ experience at MSU Denver.
• Develop and advance collaborative partnerships with campus personnel and knowledge of campus resources while serving on committees and planning teams for campus programs for Native and Indigenous students.
• Actively participate in relevant professional development opportunities including trainings, conferences, and workshops focused on equity, inclusion, student engagement, and social justice issues in higher education.
• Gather and analyze data related to how Native and Indigenous students (and prospective students) engage with the University and prepare associated reports.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Experience working directly with Native and Indigenous individuals and communities.
• Experience developing and/or enhancing programs and/or systems that support individual and/or community success
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and experience working effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience making competent, informed determinations, and judgments on a range of confidential and/or sensitive issues.
• Demonstrated experience to assist in the development and presentation of educational programs and/or workshops.
• Demonstrated experience to mentor, provide feedback, and support students from diverse backgrounds.
• Knowledge of college-level student affairs and student services principles and practices.
• Understanding of best practices for determining scholarship eligibility.

Work Hours

Commit to a weekly office schedule for position-related responsibilities and other office tasks as they arise. Typically, Monday-Friday 8-5 with potential for remote work and alternative work arrangements.
