Hagerstown Community College, located in western Maryland, is pleased to announce that applications are currently being accepted for a Coordinator of Internship and Job Services position.
This position is responsible for all aspects of the Internship and Job Services program to include developing and implementing all program services, marketing the program to students, faculty, and local employers, planning and budgeting for the unit, collecting and analyzing data, and improving processes. This position interfaces with faculty, students, local employers, and local job service agencies in setting up job shadowing opportunities, internship/apprenticeship placements and promoting job opportunities. This position serves as the campus expert for how HCC credit programs meet local employer and industry needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
A. Develops, monitors and modifies, as needed, the structure of Internship and Job Services processes to meet campus and local employer needs.
1. Recruits student interns and evaluates student eligibility for
participation in internship program; coordinates with faculty,
division directors and employers to facilitate internships, arrange
site visits, maintain records and troubleshoot as needed; overseas
the creation of for-credit apprenticeship experiences.
2. Reviews and updates all documents related to the credit
internship/apprenticeship process, including application, learning
contract, and handbook.
3. Provides new intern/apprentice orientation, with individual and
group options.
4. Administers intern/apprentice survey and evaluation at the
conclusion of the experience; assesses and documents student
learning outcomes.
5. Updates the Internship and Job Services Website and related
sections of annual College publications including the Student
Handbook, Faculty Handbook, and College Catalog.
6. Promotes campus awareness of in-demand employment sectors.
7. Develops and presents workshops on career development topics to
include resume writing, interviewing, and job search methods.
8. Ensures appropriate career software programs are in place and
used; maintains contracts.
9. Manages disbursements and expenditures of department funds and
the maintenance of office records, and budgets.
10. Coordinates the Career Closet initiative for student use,
including receiving donations of professional clothing, upkeep, and
making clothing available.
11. Maintains data on credit students participating in internships
with local employers not for academic credit.
B. Communicates with local employers about potential job shadowing,
internship/externship and job applicants; builds and maintains
strong community relationships.
1. Strategically identifies and maintains ongoing contacts with a
variety of business and industry representatives, as well as job
placement/training agencies, to promote programs for student and
recent graduates.
2. Makes cold calls to potential employers.
3. Explains the benefits of participating in job shadowing,
internships/apprenticeships, and on campus recruitment to
employers, including identifying and addressing employer's special
needs.
4. Researches job leads through a variety or resources through, but
not limited, to web sites, social media, job posting sites, company
interaction, agencies, and other resources for job leads.
5. Collects and shares data from employers related to workforce
needs.
6. Matches employer needs with student qualifications; follows up
as needed.
7. Promotes, develops, and supports on-the-job training program
opportunities with employers.
8. Proactively develops and implements strategies designed to
increase employment opportunities for HCC students and recent
graduates.
9. Works with employers to develop marketing strategies for
enhancement of employer presence on campus, including campus
recruitment and job interviews, job postings,
internships/apprenticeships, internship/career fairs,
class/organization presentations, and resume searches.
10. Participates actively in various local, state, regional, and
national organizations such as chambers of commerce, societies of
human resource management, and NACE.
11. Tracks job market demand, use of career services, trends in
recruiting, job-offer data, and hiring results for students in
various academic majors. Reports results to internal and external
stakeholders.
12. Provides marketing material for College publications/websites
that highlights local labor market information and job outlook for
academic programs.
C. Oversees employer and student registrations on the College
Central Network (CCN); strategically use the CCN to actively
connect HCC internship and job seekers with employers; conducts
student resume reviews through the CCN.
D. Collaborates with other HCC offices and local resources in the
provision of career advising and development services to
students.
E. Coordinates local and regional employer and student
participation in internship and job fairs, on campus job
recruitment, classroom presentations and other special events.
F. Develops and maintains relationships with faculty; acquires and
maintains current information about the skill sets students attain
in academic programs and the employment goals of those programs;
participate in Advisory Board meetings
G. Coordinates with Public Relations office to market student
internship and job placement successes and events
H. Participates in Grants Development and other special projects in
the provision of HCC student/graduate job and internship/externship
data and on local business and industry data, reports, and
analysis.
I. As needed, supervises student worker to provide data entry and
administrative support.
J. Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required with three to five years of work experience within the business community and/or with students in higher education required. Work experience in human relations, human resources management, academic or career advising preferred.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Excellent oral and written communication skills; with the ability to communicate on a professional level with employers, students, faculty, and staff. Creativity, energy and enthusiasm. Ability to develop rapport and establish working relationships quickly; excellent organizational skillsCo; proficiency in computer skills such as Microsoft Word and Excel; ability to work independently and contribute to a team. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
