Join the Office of Student Engagement team to provide innovative and collaborative learning opportunities that empower all students at Ithaca College to feel a sense of belonging, explore their passions, and make a difference. Coordinate the planning, implementation and evaluation of campus-wide student involvement and co-curricular learning opportunities. Advise and advocate for various student organizations, including Student Governance Council, and work with students in developing, organizing, and promoting a wide range of student-run initiatives and programs. Create and present involvement and leadership development workshops for students. Negotiate, authorize, and supervise contracts and review insurance and liability issues in conjunction with the Ithaca College Risk Management and Legal Affairs staff. Develop and implement policies and procedures in the Office of Student Engagement.

This position reports to the Director of Student Engagement. This position directly supervises the Student Organization Business Coordinator and provides day-to-day direction and guidance to various support staff and student assistants.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following. Other duties may be assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. Administer the campus student organization and involvement program by providing operational, policy, programmatic, and overall support for individual student groups and the overall community of organizations. This includes creating, maintaining, and updating the Student Organization guidebook, advisor and executive board resource materials, and programs designed to assist students in creating and maintaining diverse and inclusive involvement opportunities on campus, such as coordination of the Student Organization Fair every semester.

2. Work extensively with student organization members and advisors in the development and coordination of co-curricular learning and entertainment opportunities. Facilitate the development and implementation of major campus events.

3. Develop and implement the student organization registration and training process. Develop methods to improve the overall effectiveness of this process. Meet with executive officers of various groups to review their mission and goals while informing them of College procedures and guidelines.

4. Negotiate, review, and supervise the process for contracts between Ithaca College and outside agencies on behalf of recognized student organizations and departments as needed. Serve as a resource for members of registered student organizations as well as departments, as needed, on risk management matters in supervising and minimizing potential exposures to the College. Review insurance and liability issues associated with student organization initiatives and events, in conjunction with Ithaca College's Risk Management and Legal Affairs staff.

5. Serve as advisor and advocate for various major campus-wide student organizations, whose missions are to provide programs and services to the entire campus community, including but not limited to Student Governance Council and Student Activities Board. As an advisor of student organizations, monitor and verify expenditure of budgeted funds ensuring proper reconciliation.

6. Oversee the Student Activities Center, including student organization tenant selection and management, supplies and resources, and activities.

7. Develop and present educational workshops for student leaders, faculty and staff advisors, and other community members, particularly in relation to student organization involvement and leadership topics. Communicate, clarify, and educate students, advisors, and other community members of department and College philosophies and policies.

8. Update, maintain, and administer the College’s online resources for student organizations. Serve as a primary contact and coordinator for the Office of Student Engagement branch of the Engage system, or other comparable online tools.

9. Assist in the hiring and training of student employees and in orientation and training for staff and student employees as requested.

10. Serve as a member of the Leadership Scholarship selection committee and OSE Scholarships selection committee.

11. Coordinate a pre-orientation Jumpstart program for selected new students. Serve on the Jumpstart committee and facilitate all logistics for the opening and closing events.

12. Participate in the overall budget planning process for the Student Engagement department. Participate in establishing and implementing the Student Engagement long and short-term goals and objectives. Oversee budget for involvement programs as assigned .

13. Develop materials to promote and assess student involvement in OSE recognized organizations on campus.

14. Collaborate in the implementation of programs and activities offered through the Office of Student Engagement, including weekend retreats and conferences.

15. Represent the Office of Student Engagement and serve as a member of various campus-wide, division, and department committees and task forces as appropriate.

16. Participate in special projects and perform other duties assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree in a related field and a minimum of three years related experience; proven success working with a diverse student population in an advising or mentoring role; knowledge and understanding of contract and liability issues; experience facilitating leadership presentations; excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; experience advising student organizations; experience with event planning; the ability to represent the College effectively within and outside of the College community; budget management experience; flexibility to work nights and weekends; and proficiency in Microsoft Office, database management experience, and ability to learn new software are required. Knowledge of and ability to supervise the development and implementation of major campus events; experience working with risk management or contracts in a college or university student affairs setting; and supervision experience preferred.
