The Department of Music in the College of the Arts seeks applicants for a non-tenure-track, limited-term faculty position for the 2022-2023 academic year beginning August 1, 2022, and ending May 8, 2023.  This is a full-time benefitted position.  The position will have the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor based on credentials.  The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, maintaining scholarly productivity, and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels.

The Department of Music is made up of 27 full-time faculty and six part-time instructors. It offers a comprehensive music program whose faculty and students present over 150 performances a year. The department offers the BM, BA, MMP, and MAT degrees.  Valdosta State University is a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The position will be responsible for teaching applied Tuba and Euphonium; working with the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra as a Principal Tuba, and working with brass chamber ensembles and studio classes.  The position will also be responsible for student recruitment in the Tuba/ Euphonium studio, maintaining scholarly productivity, and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master in Music;
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning;
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • DMA or Ph.D. in Music;
  • A record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant’s career stage;
  • Tuba or Euphonium experience;
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting;
  • A record of mentoring students of diverse backgrounds.
