Position Details
This full-time faculty position is on-campus and in-person.

The qualified applicant must have at least a M.S. or M.A. in Environmental Science, Geology or a related science; with a minimum of 5 years of industry experience and, ideally, demonstrated teaching/classroom experience. All application materials, including a resume or curriculum vitae, a cover letter, a statement of teaching philosophy confirming the ability to teach the required courses, and a DEI statement, should be uploaded via the application for this position.

The TCU Department of Environmental Sciences invites applications for the position of non-tenure track, promotion-eligible Assistant or Associate Professor of Professional Practice (PPP). The position begins Spring 2023, but we can consider a Fall 2023 start. TCU operates on a teacher-scholar model and faculty members are expected to excel in the classroom. PPPs are specifically appointed because of skills and expertise acquired in nonacademic careers and their ability to translate that experience into the classroom to train the next generation of environmental professionals. We are seeking candidates with demonstrated excellence in environmental consulting and industry. In addition, the candidate would maintain the department’s contacts with industry and other environmental professionals, and manage both the undergraduate and graduate internship programs. Primary responsibilities will include teaching upper-level applied courses, maintaining professional knowledge and skills, leading departmental initiatives, and interfacing with the Institute for Environmental Studies.

We seek an enthusiastic and dynamic individual who will teach a number of specific courses (listed below) as well as develop new course offerings for the Department, and mentor both the undergraduate and graduate population for job searches, resumes, and general career advice. The PPP is pivotal for our students seeking employment, advanced degrees, and professional licensure; therefore, the career advice and mentoring that the PPP provides is critical to the overall program. The ideal candidate will be licensed in Texas as a Professional Geoscientist or have the ability to obtain this licensure within one year of hiring. The specific courses that the successful candidate must teach with an applied focus include:

1. Earth Materials (ENSC 30443)
2. Environmental Compliance (ENSC 50703)
3. Phase I & II Environmental Site Assessment (ENSC 50713)
4. Groundwater Hydrology (ENSC 50763)
5. Environmental Internship (ENSC 40013 and 70003)

The ideal candidate would also be able to teach Water & Wastewater Technology (ENSC 50723).

The successful candidate will also coordinate the Masters of Environmental Management (MEM) degree for the department and liaise with the Neeley School of Business for the business course offerings in this degree program.
