The College of Liberal Arts Department of English seeks candidates for a Communications Editor for the Southern Humanities Review ( SHR ), a literary journal. The Communications Editor is an ongoing staff position that reports to the Editor-in-Chief and Chair of the Department of English and serves as the Managing Editor of theSouthern Humanities Review( SHR ).

Essential Functions
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Edit, produce and develop content for online and printed components; plan, design, and coordinate the layout of publications and other materials; oversee production and distribution of the journal; coordinate programs and special events; maintain mailing lists and other journal files; manage website updates; maintain event calendar and event planning; maintain journal financial records and accounts; communicate with subscribers and contributors to the journal; work effectively with faculty editors and graduate student assistants.
Minimum Education and Experience
Education Level
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
Field of Study
Journalism, English, Mass Communications, or a related field
Years of Experience
Level I requires no experience
Area of Experience
Writing and editing communications/ publications and/or in journalism.
Requirements for Additional Job Levels
Level II requires a Bachelor’s degree in disciplines listed above plus 2 years experience writing and editing communications/ publications and/or in journalism.
Level III requires a Bachelor’s degree in disciplines listed above plus 4 years experience writing and editing communications/ publications and/or in journalism.
Advanced degrees may substitute for experience requirements.

Experience in editing, publishing, writing, journalism, or other closely-related fields; experience working for a literary journal; proficiency with Adobe InDesign; familiarity with other Adobe applications as well as Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.; experience with social media; experience in building and maintaining a website; excellent interpersonal skills.
