Position Summary

This position has significant interactions with all Holmes Student Center Accounting Office personnel, all areas of the Holmes Student Center, NIU Internal Auditors and other NIU departments, as well as external auditors, vendors, and clients. Reports to the Business Administrative Associate of the HSC Accounting Office. This position supervises the positions working directly in the vault and has the lead responsibility for establishing and maintaining efficient control of cash operations and safeguarding cash assets with input and assistance of the HSC Business Administrative Associate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Manages the handling and processing of all cash operations in the Holmes Student Center and backup for non-cash operations. Daily Cash can range from $20,000-$25,000 seasonally. Cash operations consist of, but are not limited to HSC restaurants, HSC banquet & catering operations, HSC satellite food operations in academic buildings, Huskie Den game room, HSC hotel, HSC conference operations, and AV/Multimedia sales.

Minimum Required Qualifications (Civil Service)

CREDENTIALS TO BE VERIFIED BY PLACEMENT OFFICER
1. Any one or any combination of the following, totaling three (3) years (36 months), from the categories below:
work experience and/or training in Accounting or a closely related field
college course work and/or training in Accounting or a closely related field including 12 semester hours in accounting
● Associate Degree (60 semester hours) equals 18 months
● 90-semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
● Bachelor’s Degree or higher (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
1. Problem-solving (Ability to tell when something is wrong; inclination towards solving problems)
2. Math skills (Ability to choose the right mathematical methods or formulas to solve a problem and to efficiently solve mathematical problems)

6. Independent decision making (Ability to exercise independent judgment)

8. Broad accounting knowledge (Up-to-date knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, as well as relevant laws and regulations; ability to apply accounting theory to routine accounting problems)
9. Clerical knowledge (Knowledge of word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, managing inventory, etc.)
10. Customer service orientation (Ability to assess customer needs, meet quality standards for service, and evaluate customer satisfaction)
11. Ability to operate office accounting machines and equipment
12. Written composition (Ability to compose complex written material; knowledge of grammar and punctuation, spelling, etc.)

Ability to perform independently within the general guidelines established by the Accountant II and the Business Administrative Associate. Determine work priorities using established methods and worksheets. Mathematical aptitude and accuracy. Adaptability to handle frequent interruption and change of workflow. Proficiency of Excel, Word, PeopleSoft, Blackboard, Quad Point, and InnRoad.
