Portland Community College (PCC) is seeking a collaborative IST who will support the Fire Protection program. The successful candidate will have direct experience and strong knowledge of best practices in practical firefighting skills, emergency medical skills, apparatus driving and pumping skills. This position is a .5FTE (20hrs/week).

Candidate Profile

These qualifications, skills and abilities are critical for success in this position.
Throughout the screening process, you will be evaluated based on the demonstration of these qualifications.
  • AAS Degree in Fire Protection Technology
  • Two or more years of experience as a firefighter in a recognized structural fire department
  • Fire Fighter I & II certifications (IFSAC or Pro Board preferred)
  • Thorough knowledge of fire department organization, structure, operations and emergency service delivery
  • Proficiency in practical firefighting skills, emergency medical skills, apparatus driving and pumping skills
  • Competent communicator and team leader
  • Experience working with the maintenance of records, document tracking, time management, and fee payments in compliance with college, state and program accreditation standards and guidelines
  • Demonstrable experience developing and maintaining effective relationships with partner agencies, college staff at all levels, and industry/regulatory agency personnel
Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of post-secondary education in the specific technical discipline appropriate to the instructional support (e.g. fire protection, emergency medical) [Note: Experience performing the duties described above may substitute for the post-secondary education requirement on a year-for-year basis.]
  • One year of experience supporting laboratory activities in the technical area
  • Must have proven communications skills adequate to assist students in understanding the work they are to perform
Position Grade 16 Starting Salary Expectations The first two steps of the range are: $18.72 to $19.28 per hour. Higher salary placement may be available based on qualifications, experience and internal equity. Position Grade Salary Range $18.72 to $30.03 Hourly Wage FTE 0.5 PCC Benefits

Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for yourself, domestic partner, and dependent children under 24 years of age. Partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions (full-time employees only).

Paid Leave: (Pro-rated by FTE for Part-Time Employees)
  • Starts at 8 hours of vacation leave per month (additional vacation hours with years of service)

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work pressure, disturbances of work flow and/or irregularities in work schedule are expected and occur on an intermittent basis. Changes in the performance environment require occasional upgrading of skills. Working conditions may be somewhat disagreeable requiring occasional exposure to safety hazards, noise and temperature.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Some learned physical skills are required. Physical effort such as frequent standing, walking and lifting; guiding and/or carrying of lightweight materials or equipment; occasional periods of sustained effort.
