Job/Department Summary:

Under the general direction of the Dean of the College of Agriculture, and in coordination with University Advancement, this position is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and executing a comprehensive external relations plan that advances the mission of the College. These responsibilities include public relations, publications, community outreach, and coordination of fundraising and friend-raising events. This position operates with a high degree of autonomy in carrying out these responsibilities and must possess the knowledge of methods and techniques of effective program management and supervision. The scope of duties are varied and multifaceted and requires travel, evening, and weekend time commitments.

Mandatory Vaccinations:

The CSU requires faculty, staff, and students who are accessing campus facilities to be fully immunized against COVID-19 or have received a medical or religious exemption. Selected candidates should be prepared to comply with this requirement.

Preferences:

Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills:
  • Bilingual.
  • Excellent knowledge of California's Agriculture Industry.

  • At least three years' experience on event planning (event production, from conception, and implementation, to final analysis).

  • Excellent skills on communications and public relations (identify, develop, write, and edit a broad range of print and electronically based communication materials.

  • Experience with media relations and community engagement campaign fund-raising or development.

  • Experience working for an institution of higher education or nonprofit organization.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent educational experience, in public relations, events management, or a major related to the duties, knowledge, skills, and abilities of this position. Knowledge of Ag. Industry with focus on California's Agriculture.
AND
Two years of full-time experience in public relations, journalism, or event coordination.

Time Base: Full-time


Pay Plan: 12/12

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm, Summer - Mon-Thurs 7:00-5:30.

Salary and Benefits Information:

Salary commensurate with background and experience of the individual selected. (Anticipated hiring range: $63,000 - $68,000 per year).

This position qualifies for benefits including tuition fee waiver (if eligible).

Additional Information:

This position is a Higher Education Employer-Employee Relations Act (HEERA) designated managerial position and comes under the Management Personnel Plan (MPP) of the California State University. Individuals appointed to management positions serve at the pleasure of the President or designee. They are excluded from the collective bargaining process, are not subject to probationary service, and do not receive tenure or permanent status. This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

The duties of this position will include participation in a decision that may have a material/financial benefit to the incumbent. Therefore, this is a “designated position” under the California State University’s Conflict of Interest Code and the incumbent will be required to file a Form 700: Statement of Economic Interest and is subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission. (Group/Category: Advancement/Development - Director for College of Agriculture (all levels), CAT-02)

California State University, Chico, in accordance with CSU policy, requires that the successful candidate complete a background check (including a criminal records check, sexual offender registry check, and/or fingerprinting) prior to assuming this position. The person holding this position is considered a “Limited Mandated Reporter” under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 (revised July 21, 2017) as a condition of employment.

Throughout employment in this position incumbent must maintain a valid California Driver's License as well continued completion and compliance of the CSU Defensive Driver's Training course.

This position requires travel, evening, and weekend time commitments.
