Job Description:
The Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) focuses on advancing
Champlain College's commitment to diversity, equity, community, and
inclusion by serving as a central resource on issues related to
race, ethnicity, culture, and inclusivity. The ODI accomplishes
this through developing and facilitating programs and academic and
sociocultural advising while advocating on behalf of students and
communities. The ODI staff partner with students, faculty, and
campus colleagues to create and advocate for campus-wide
educational programs, intercultural engagement, and programs that
promote the matriculation of historically underrepresented
students.
The Program Coordinator provides support to the ODI in order to effectively achieve departmental, divisional, and institutional goals. These responsibilities include:
- Proactively seeks to identify the developing needs of Black, Indegionious and People of Color (BIPOC), first-generation, and other underserved populations and establish priorities and strategies in collaboration with ODI leadership to best serve these populations
- Collaborate on initiative design to increase the retention of underserved students communities served by ODI. These include, but are not limited to; academic empowerment, mentoring programs, pre-orientation (AHEAD), and first-year programs (CARE).
- Experience with programming in student affairs and strong program development responsibilities include event management, student supervision, data collection and social media content maintenance
- Demonstrated ability to foster positive and productive relationships with students, faculty, and staff as well as local resources
- Foster local partnerships to support Black, Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) on and off-campus with businesses, organizations, and other institutions.
- Facilitate the education of student leaders, staff, and faculty in alignment with the Center's mission in areas of DEI initiatives
Requirements:
This is a 12-month, full-time position in the Division of Student
Affairs. A Bachelor's degree required and experience in providing
educational and social programming is preferred. Must have
excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Evening
and weekend hours are required.
The successful candidate will be able to help build intercultural understanding and demonstrate multicultural perspectives that can foster a diverse and inclusive community. Candidates must have a professional and positive attitude towards their work, the mission of the institution, and the goals of the college. Adaptability, continuous learning, strong critical judgment, a commitment to diversity and teamwork, and providing quality services are some of the staff competencies required for success at Champlain College.
- Strong passion and interest in diversity, equity and inclusion education
- Experience working with BIPOC and other underrepresented populations
- Experience working in a higher education or community-based setting preferred
