THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Psychology is in the College of Science. It serves 1000 undergraduate majors, about 75% of whom are working toward a B.A. degree. The remaining 25% are pursuing a B.S. degree, with options in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and Ergonomics & Human Factors. The demographic composition of students in the Department of Psychology mirrors that of the university as a whole. Racial/ethnic composition: 17% Asian, 10% Black/African American, 1% Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, 4% International, 42% Latinx, 5% Multiple, 5% Unknown, 14% White. Other demographic information: 75% women; 67% first generation college students, 53% historically underserved (URM), 57% Pell Grant recipients, 65% transfer students. The diversity of our student body leads to rich classroom discussion and an opportunity to mentor historically underserved students in research. Laboratory space and a participant pool are available and faculty development funds are awarded on a competitive basis. DUTIES OF THE POSITION: Candidates should be able to teach social psychology, along with experimental psychology and other courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Candidates are expected to mentor primarily undergraduate research students and have an active program of research. Please note that teaching assignments at California State University, East Bay include courses at the Hayward, Concord, and online campuses. In addition to teaching, all faculty have advising responsibilities, assist the department with administrative and/or committee work, and are expected to assume campus-wide committee responsibilities. The policy and expectation of the California State University is that tenure-track faculty members will perform their duties within the state of California.

RANK AND SALARY: Assistant Professor. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Subject to budgetary authorization.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a PhD in Psychology or related field (or foreign equivalent) and a record of peer-reviewed publications relevant to social psychology, with preference given to candidates with expertise in diversity, social justice, and/or multiculturalism. The candidate is expected to mentor primarily undergraduate research students and have an active program of research. Candidates should demonstrate experience in teaching, mentoring, research, or community service that has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate a record of scholarly activity and potential to obtain outside funding.
