General Statement of Job

The Enterprise Systems Administrator is primarily responsible for supporting all the Enterprise Systems environments, including public facing systems and internal corporate services. Provides automation, maintenance, design, and implementation of mission-critical services for Missouri Southern State University. This position will provide leadership and technical insight in exploring new technologies to support current and future deployments, coordinating with other departments or teams to optimize workflows and visibility into system operations.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

  • Administer, maintain, and update servers to provide optimal performance and availability.
  • Design, implement, support, and monitor server systems as well as the supporting software and hardware.
  • Write and update technical documentation for projects and responsibilities as they evolve.
  • Utilize various command line interfaces and knowledge of SQL to support Enterprise Systems.
  • Assist with implementation of changes to database applications and integrations.
  • Provide server support to first and third-party applications that interface with Enterprise Systems.
  • Provide the highest practicable levels of performance and availability of all server systems.
  • Install, configure, and manage server-based software and code libraries.
  • Ensure continued server operation by removing all single points of failure.
  • Manage Firewall Rules and access to Enterprise Systems where applicable.
  • Assist Database Administrator with database support as needed.
  • Organize and manage many simultaneous projects.
  • Perform, test, and enhance system backup procedures.
  • Support, test, and plan for onsite disaster recovery.
  • Forecast hardware and software upgrades.
  • Work with vendors to resolve hardware and software problems.
  • Make recommendations for overall system enhancements.
  • Consult with colleagues to determine impact of system changes and staff cost for implementation.
  • Employee may perform special projects and other related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the institution.
  • Ability to provide application administration support 24 hours, 7 days a week if system issues arise or updates/upgrades require working outside of normal business hours.

Education, Experience, and Licenses

Two plus years progressive related experience and/or training required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Prior experience with Ellucian products and/or server management preferred.

  • Ability to use or repair small/light equipment, such as power tools.
  • Ability to use computers for data entry.
  • Ability to use computers for word processing and/or accounting purposes.
  • Ability to repair, develop, or install computer hardware or network systems.
  • Ability to use highly technical computer applications.
  • Ability to create plans for and guide implementation of new technology systems.
  • Ability to provide application administration support 24 hours, 7 days a week if system issues arise or updates/upgrades require working outside of normal business hours.
