The primary mission of the Office of Student Financial Aid and
Scholarships at the University of Oregon is to help students
achieve their educational goals by reducing financial barriers to
attend the University of Oregon. This mission is carried out in an
environment that places high priority on student-centered service
as well as meeting University enrollment goals. We provide
information about financial assistance and scholarships to a
diverse group of students and families, determine financial aid
eligibility and award program funds to applicants in accordance
with all applicable policies and rules, while advocating for
students regarding financial aid issues at the institutional,
State, and Federal levels.
Reporting to the Associate Vice President and Director of Financial
Aid and Scholarships, this position has managerial responsibility
and accountability for the administration and coordination of one
or more of the department's programs. It is also responsible for a
variety of student-related functions. In doing so the incumbent
exercises independent, professional judgment beyond proscribed
routine policies and procedures to carry out the university's
mission and policy to recruit and retain students at this
university. The independent decisions made by the incumbent commit
this office to a specific course of action, carry fiduciary
responsibility and accountability for managing at least one unit
program, including financial aid program expenditures, as well as
determine whether or not a student receives financial assistance to
attend or continue attending the university. This position is part
of a management team that designs and implements unit policy
regarding program administration and policies and procedures
regarding the application for, and the receipt of, financial aid.
This includes supervising the administrative staff in the
counseling area and their direct reports, counseling staff who
report directly to the Associate Director, reviewing data to
determine the appropriate staffing needs to ensure that student
contact needs are met. This individual reviews student contact
records to ensure that correct information was provided. It also
coordinates the new staff and ongoing staff training needs for the
office. This individual also serves on the Enrollment Planning
Committee, assisting and providing input into the division's
strategies and is responsible for assisting the division in meeting
annual enrollment goals.
The Associate Director for Advising is a unique associate director
position among the three that exist the Office of Student Financial
Aid and Scholarship. The advising associate has the largest group
of direct reports of the group (Two Assistant Directors, six
Counselors and up to thirty students across advising and wellness
when fully staffed) and by the nature of the reports has the
broadest responsibility / effect for/on the success of the outward
facing interactions of our office, which make up a majority of the
work we do. This associate position also has multiple programs that
they oversee in addition to advising in the Financial Wellness
program and in the Training and development program, the latter of
which serves the entire Office of Student Financial Aid and
Scholarships (Twenty five full time staff and up to thirty students
when fully staffed) not just the staff that report to the Associate
Director for Advising.
The Associate Director for Advising is also responsible for all
community outreach including all Financial Aid outreach and
incoming class development generally as a member of the Enrollment
Planning Committee and specifically for the Pathway Oregon
- Master's Degree or an equivalent combination of skills,
experience, and education.
- Five years experience in student financial aid, student
affairs, or counseling
- Three years supervisory experience.
- Must not be in Default of Title IV loans.
- Understanding of issues facing diverse groups (e.g.
low-socioeconomic, first generation, underrepresented students of
color, non-traditional, and under-prepared individuals).
- Effective communication skills.
- High-level organizational skills with the ability to prioritize
and multi-task effectively in a fast-paced, detail oriented, and
time sensitive environment.
- Diligently attends to details and completes detail-oriented
tasks with a high degree of accuracy
- Recognizes situations that warrant initiative and moves forward
without hesitation to resolve issues, problems, or

- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (or similar). Ability to
produce professional correspondence, documents, data reports, and

internal and external constituencies.
