The Relevant, Experiential, and Applied Learning (REAL) Initiative seeks a team member to assist and support VCU’s experiential learning initiative for Academic year 2022-2023. The selected candidate will provide general support and assistance to the REAL Office. For more information about VCU's REAL initiative, visit: https://real.vcu.edu/. Areas of work will include:
General office and clerical support to include:
- Organizing and maintaining office common areas,
- Greeting clients and visitors as needed,
- Assisting with incoming and outgoing communications
- Maintaining databases and document archives
- Creating, entering, and maintaining information into
databases,
- Coordinating meetings for AVP of REAL and REAL Council Member
work groups, organizing and sending relevant information and
documents, and taking detailed meeting minutes,
- Supervision REAL Interns,
- University-wide marketing and implementation of Student
Opportunity Center, the experiential learning tracking and
engagement platform,
- Event-planning to include Town Halls, Focus Groups, Showcases,
and other outreach work related to gathering student,
faculty/staff, and community input,
- Researching and learning new platforms quickly that are
selected to meet the needs of VCU students and the REAL
office,
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ability to work 20 hours/week
Strong written/oral communication and interpersonal skills - Commitment to professionalism and collegiality in all
interactions
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Google Docs, Google Sheets,
Google Forms,
- Ability to work on multiple projects in conjunction with
reasonable interruption,
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships and
collaborations with faculty,
- Ability to work well with limited supervision.
- Demonstrated experience working in fostering a diverse student,
staff, and faculty environment, or commitment to do so as an
employee at VCU.
- Experience with event planning and implementation
- Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic, and collaborative
environment.
- Current VCU student preferred
- Previous experience working with college students in a
university setting,
- Experience with marketing, social media, data analysis, and/or
survey development is a plus,
- Completion of at least one experiential learning opportunity
such as service-learning, study abroad, research, civic engagement,
or an internship in high school or college; and a passion for
ensuring that all students have an opportunity to be engaged in
transformational learning.
