The Assistant Director of Honors for Student Affairs reports to the University Director of Honors and leads co-curricular initiatives for FDU Honors (including Honors Academy, Honors Program, and Global Scholars) on both New Jersey campuses. This student-centered staff member will support honors students throughout their time at FDU . The primary areas of focus will include co-curricular activities (on and off campus events, first-year experience, honors housing, student mentoring) and admissions (recruitment of students through high-touch process of application and interviews).
The incumbent receives minimal general supervision concerning objectives to be achieved and characteristics of required results and holds a leadership role within honors. The Assistant Director is expected to work independently and collaboratively on assignments and special projects and prioritize tasks in accordance with the needs of the two offices. The Assistant Director makes decisions within established procedural guidelines or proposes new processes when current guidelines do not address a specific situation. Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, or related field preferred.
2. A minimum of 3 years related student affairs or honors experience.
3. Working knowledge of student development theory and practice. Working knowledge of or willingness to learn honors best practices.
4. Strong communication and writing skills and ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks.
5. Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
6. Must be available to work non-standard hours as required, including evenings and weekends.
7. Proficiency in the use of database systems, internet-access software, Microsoft Office, and social media platforms. Knowledge of Ellucian preferred.
8. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card. Preferred Qualifications: Hours Worked
