POSITION: The Director of Services for Students with Disabilities and TRIO AIM Project provides direct administrative support and supervision of mandated disability services for students with disabilities on the UWEC and UW-Barron County campus (0.50 FTE) and serves as project director of a federal Student Support Services TRIO program that serves a group of eligible students with disabilities (0.50 FTE). The director is responsible for compliance to ADA legal guidelines and U.S. Department of Education TRIO grant regulations.

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic leader with experience in higher education, student growth and wellbeing and student retention strategies.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain UW-Eau Claire policies and procedures relative to access and accommodations for students with disabilities and serve as a campus resource on UW-Eau Claire policy, UW System policy, and applicable ADA federal law regarding students with disabilities.
  • Promote interactive dialogue with students, disability staff, instructors, and campus units for effective provision of disability accommodations and access to programs and activities.
  • Collaborate with units of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and Student Affairs Division, and other relevant offices to develop resources and provide training to faculty and staff related to accommodations, universal design, and accessibility for students with disabilities.
  • Administer and manage state and federal budgets for programs and
  • Supervise professional and administrative staff, graduate assistants, and student workers, monitor professional development, and evaluate performance.
  • Monitor disability data collection and complete reports as required by the University, Institutional Research office, UW System, and the S. Department of Education TRIO regulations.
  • Serve on UW - Eau Claire and UW System committees and chair the EDI Division Vice Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Accessibility Issues for Persons with Disabilities.

EXPECTATIONS AND DUTIES:

  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion in a manner consistent with the overall mission of the University.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication and facilitation skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals and constituencies.
  • Ability to reflect and share lived experiences including empathy, emotional awareness, self- reflection, compassion, and courage.
  • Public speaking skills and ability to present ideas persuasively. 
  • Ability to develop and maintain budgets. 
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, fiscally prudent.
  • Expanded duties as applicable to role and in consultation with division Vice Chancellor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution. 
  • Knowledge of post-secondary disability requirements and determination of reasonable accommodations, and knowledge of federal laws pertaining to persons with disabilities. 
  • Demonstrated ability to administer programmatic and budget functions and supervise professional and administrative personnel.
  • Knowledge of the TRIO programs and federal grant regulations and legislation. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working collaboratively with faculty and staff at the postsecondary level. 
  • Experience managing and mentoring staff, including how to create a shared vision and build a supportive team environment, ensuring staff receive the training and support necessary to fulfill job duties, and designing systems and infrastructure that address program and staff needs.
