Statement of Job:

The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at the University of Southern Maine seeks a certified yoga instructor for a part-time position co-teaching a class that helps students explore liberal arts majors through the study of and practice of yoga. Topics will include yoga philosophy, history, and the sociology of yoga in America.

Teaching responsibilities for this position include working with a faculty co-lead to select readings and facilitate class discussion, and leading students through a yoga practice for each class meeting. The class will run from 11/03/2022 to 12/08/2022 and will meet Thursday afternoons from 3:30-5:00PM. The instructor will also read and assess journal entries and a short final reflective paper.

Part-time faculty members are paid on a credit hour basis based on prior college teaching experience. In addition, USM employees can use their USM Card to access the library, Cigna Employee Assistance Plan, and fitness center(s). USM also offers part-time faculty the opportunity for development frequently through our Center for Collaboration and Development (CCD) and the chance to get an online teaching certification and training through CTEL, in addition to other developmental opportunities open to all staff throughout the year.

Qualifications:
  • Certified yoga instructor
  • Experience teaching topics such as yoga history, philosophy, and sociology.
  • Familiar with trauma-informed and inclusive pedagogies.
