Job Summary

Reporting to the Cabinet Leader responsible for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, the Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging ( DEIB ) is an enthusiastic and collaborative senior leader who is responsible for partnering with Tarrant County College leaders and stakeholders to integrate and advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging strategies within the College’s broader strategic planning and implementation work. The Executive Director of DEIB provides strategic and facilitative leadership to design initiatives and programs to promote a thriving diverse, multicultural, inclusive, and equitable college environment in support of the College’s mission and strategic direction. The Executive Director of DEIB will lead efforts to promote a culture of DEIB across the College that supports the College’s commitment to providing open access to education and equitable opportunities for students to learn, think and develop as they prepare to enter a career or transfer to a four-year college while also promoting a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment for employees.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Performance Requirements*
  • Builds awareness, understanding, and positive outcomes of how the College will center diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging within the College’s commitment to function as one college, to be student-ready, and to serve the community
  • Assesses the current state of the College’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging ( DEIB ) strategic work and, as appropriate, refocuses and/or recommends new strategies to ensure greater institutional alignment
  • Engages actively with the college community to promote teaching and learning strategies that support DEIB and student success
  • Collaborates with College stakeholders to assess professional development and training needs and recommend and implement DEIB programs accordingly
  • Leads integrated DEIB planning and implementation efforts with intentional focus on stakeholder collaboration, measuring effectiveness, data-driven recommendations, and strategic alignment with the overall goals of the College
  • Serves as a College-wide liaison to ensure the coordination and implementation of DEIB proven and promising practices and strategies
  • Collaborates with other College offices to develop, implement, and leverage data to measure efforts and success to inform leadership decisions with regard DEIB to faculty, staff, and students in underrepresented groups
  • Promotes the College’s commitment to a climate of DEIB through interaction with individuals and agencies inside and outside the college district
  • Consults with college Principle Champions, as well as other college leaders, to ensure that existing strategies and recommendations have been developed using a lens of DEIB ; identifies gaps and recommends appropriate strategies to mitigate inequities in practice and policy
  • Promotes environments and develops relationships that foster safe conversations, trust, and respect within the college
  • Oversees periodic assessment of the College DEIB climate; uses results to inform improvements in programs, policies, and interventions
  • Partners with Human Resources to develop strategies that achieve a more diverse and inclusive environment
  • Partners with Human Resources and the Center for Teaching and Learning to provide learning and professional development, which foster a sustainable DEIB climate and culture across the college
General Supervision and Management
  • Provides leadership for and an Administrative Assistant
  • Providing direction, on-going monitoring, and support for all DEIB initiatives
Supervision
  • Works under the general supervision of the Cabinet Leader responsible for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging
Service Excellence
  • Shows a deep awareness and understanding of the national trends and issues currently impacting higher education, particularly community colleges
  • Provides strategic leadership in the development of policy and service delivery models that intentionally advance the college’s diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
  • Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through the Tarrant County College ( TCC ) Institute
  • Supports the mission, values, and 3 goals and 8 principles of the College

Required Minimum Qualifications

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree
  • Five (5) years of progressively broad success in strategic and administrative leadership and planning in diversity, equity, and inclusion in a complex organization
  • Three (3) years of experience supervising (e.g., managing, evaluating performance of others; leading projects or processes)
Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree or doctorate in one of the social sciences to include Higher Education, Sociology, Social Anthropology, Leadership, Management, Psychology, Counseling, Organizational Development, or a related field
  • Experience developing and successfully delivering curriculum for training related to diversity, inclusion, and cultural competence Education
  • Experience designing and facilitating crucial conversations to support a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Experience working in an environment of higher education
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

KNOWLDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Expert knowledge of and sensitivity to issues related to a diverse organization in an academic setting
  • Program development and management principles Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment and a setting that is diverse and urban
  • Proven track record of making research-informed decisions
  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge in the field of equity, diversity, and inclusion and its application to the educational environment
  • Demonstrated success in identifying and implementing best practices of diversity, equity and inclusion and an excellent command of modern diversity, equity and inclusion concepts and issues in higher education
  • Demonstrated understanding of the mission, philosophy, and general academic program requirements of community colleges
  • Demonstrated success as a collaborator and relationship builder, with strong interpersonal skills and ability to build coalitions and collaborative working relationships with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups, including senior executives, to achieve results.
  • Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work are varied and unpredictable in scope and volume
  • Ability to delegate work appropriately to faculty and staff to meet College and campus deliverables
  • Ability to use computer applications and enterprise systems, including proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
  • Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with diverse populations
