Position Purpose: The Dean of Students supports learning by providing leadership and administrative direction for non-academic Student Life services and programs on campus that support student learning, foster a strong sense of community, and promote growth through engagement in the life of the university on campus. The Dean of Students is also responsible for communicating and interacting with the student body to understand their needs and concerns; and for setting and carrying out disciplinary policy as outlined in the Student Handbook.

  • Essential Job Functions:

  • Strategically leads, directs, and coordinates the following student life functions/staff: residence life; campus engagement; student handbook; and student discipline.
  • Partners with functions across the university to develop, implement, and evaluate non-academic programs, activities, and events that engage, educate, and enhance the student experience on campus. This includes social and cultural activities. Participates in and attends such programs and activities regularly.
  • Collaborates with functions across the university to develop, implement, and evaluate programs that impact student persistence, retention, and student success.
  • Directs the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, procedures, and programs that support the non-academic student experience.
  • Member of the CEOT. Responds to emergency/crisis situations as needed, including coordination of communication with healthcare providers and families.
  • Serves as a member of the Behavior Intervention Team (BIT).
  • Effectively manages all student behavior records in Maxient.
  • Oversees operating budget.


  • Essential Job Requirements:

    Education:
    • Master's Degree in student affairs, education administration, or similar field required.
    Experience:
    • 7-10 years of progressive experience in Student Life or relevant experience in a related department or discipline.
    Skills:
    • Exceptional leadership and diplomacy skills.
    • Positive attitude and ability to successfully collaborate with diverse populations across the university, to include students, faculty, staff, and families.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of and capacity to implement student affairs programs, policies, and practices.
    • Ability to mentor staff and advance a culture of service and collaboration.
    • Ability to create a climate responsive to student concerns.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Exceptional listening skills.
    • Experience providing response and assistance to students in crisis situations.
    • In-depth understanding of student privacy issues.
