Position Details
The Office of Communications shines a spotlight on the people and programs of Wesleyan University to enhance its reputation as a leader in liberal education. In so doing, it serves as a partner with units across campus, providing expertise in brand management, strategic communication, media relations, digital and social media strategy, website development, content training and strategy, print and online publications and videography and photography. Reporting to the Senior Designer, the Graphic Design Intern is a vital member of a design team who work collaboratively within the Creative team and throughout the Office of Communications.

The Graphic Design Intern will develop and implement a variety of projects to create branded materials in both print and digital media.

Responsibilities/Duties:
  • Conceptualize, design, and implement creative graphics and content, both print and digital, on time and within budget.
  • Develop and design layouts, inclusive of copy and images for marketing collateral and digital ads.
  • Ensure design revisions and approval of projects, as well as versioning control and file archiving.
  • Perform graphic, image and photo editing as well as production tasks such as color correction and effects, image resizing, font management and appropriate graphic preparation (packaging) optimized for all file types regardless of medium (print/web/email/social).
  • Attain essential art templates and printing parameters from suppliers, publications and update designers as needed.
  • Assist in the management of photos and logos in university digital asset management system. Catalog and archive all project artwork.
  • Ensure that they maintain brand standards and ensure quality control of all file formats
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

This is a one year .75 FTE internship that is authorized to work up to 1462.50 hours annually. Specific schedule and start date is flexible. Funding for this position has been approved for 1 year. Continuation of the position is contingent upon continued funding.


Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s Degree in fine arts, graphic design, or a related field and a minimum of one year experience (student experience will be considered) in graphic design or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Technical skill to develop and implement a variety of projects to create branded materials in both print and digital media. Demonstrated proficiency with graphic software such as Adobe CC (In Design, Illustrator, Acrobat, Photoshop), and Microsoft Office Knowledge of current design software and familiarity with the design process from concept to the final deliverable. Knowledge of task such color correction and effects, image resizing, font management and graphic preparation. Demonstrated commitment to working within a diverse environment, and ability to build effective collaborative relationships.
Preferred Qualifications
Pursuing Bachelor’s Degree in fine arts, graphic design, or similar related discipline.
