Working within the Student Affairs Division, under the supervision of the Dean of Students, the Assistant Dean will assist with the oversight of Student Affairs operations and serve as a resource and liaison for students, parents, faculty and staff. The Assistant Dean will facilitate departmental and division wide assessment, administer in-house staff development, and assist with the management of students in crisis. The Assistant Dean of Students also works in conjunction with other college offices in an effort to increase understanding and awareness of services for students and their families.

Specifically, the Assistant Dean of Students will:
  • Oversee all aspects of planning and implementation for all new student orientation programs.
  • Design, implement and administer programs to enhance communications and responsiveness to parents and families including orientation for new families, Purple Knight Family Association, Family Advisory Board, Purple Knight Family Day and family web pages.
  • Serve as the University Conduct Officer and will provide direct oversight of the management and promotion of the Code of Community Standards including the investigation and adjudication of cases related to alleged misconduct through Administrative or Hearing Board processes
  • Share responsibilities with the Dean concerning student issues, including but not limited to disciplinary affairs, student development and assessment, on-call responsibilities, and special projects as necessary
  • Maintain all records related to violations of the Code of Community Standards by students and student clubs/organizations
  • Oversee the selection and training of Community Standards Advisors, as well as, members of the Community Standard Hearing Board.
  • Review and Revise university policies related to the Code of Community Standards to insure policy compliance to related state/federal law and best practices within higher education institutions.
  • Chair the Case Management Team and coordinate case management of students of concern
  • Serve as a resource for community members on matters related to student conduct including the creation and implementation of educational programming/trainings for faculty/staff/students promoting positive citizenship with in the university community.
  • Work with student affairs departments and others to develop and administer effective and appropriate on-line evaluation of large-scale programs and services.
  • Assist students with problem solving and making appropriate referrals
  • Oversee programs designed to support the academic and community life of students and enhance retention.
  • Participate in the development of divisional goals, objectives, policies and management strategies
  • Initiate staff development programs
  • In the absence of the Dean, serve as a representative of the Division of Student Affairs
  • Serve on various university committees as requested by the Dean
  • Be available to fulfill evening and weekend duties as requested by the Dean
  • Participate in the Administrator on call duty rotation
  • Assist with additional duties as requested by the Dean

  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain a pleasant and professional attitude.
  • Ability to work with ethnically, culturally, and socially diverse students, staff, faculty, and other constituencies required.
  • Be available to fulfill evening and weekend duties as requested by the Dean
  • Ability to participate in the Administrator on call duty rotation

Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in higher education / college student personnel or related field
  • Minimum of five years of full-time, progressive professional, experience working in Students Affairs
  • Demonstrated skills of leadership and communication, sensitivity to individual differences and an interest and enthusiasm for working with students
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Significant professional experience with progressively increasing administrative responsibilities in student affairs at a high management level
  • Experience in managing overall operations and/or responsibility within an area of students affairs including: policy development, marketing, managing staff, budgeting, billing, damage assessments, safety, etc.
