General Description

Reporting to the Manager of Employee Benefits, the HR Benefits Assistant II provides clerical support in the administration of the College's employee benefits plans. This position is responsible for processing employee benefit transactions and demonstrates strong customer service in providing first level support to employees in response to incoming calls and emails. The HR Benefits Assistant reviews and audits benefit billing statements in preparation for payment; and demonstrates accuracy in performing data entry into the College's enterprise-wide system and other benefits administration platforms and vendor websites.


Specific Responsibilities
  • Responds to calls and written inquires to Benefits office email inbox following department guidelines; escalating questions for resolution using pre-defined processes.




  • Demonstrates accuracy and timeliness in the processing of employee benefit transactions and completes related data entry into Banner and other benefit administration systems.


  • Reviews and audits benefit billing statements and prepares invoices for payment.


  • Scans/uploads benefit forms and maintains employee records in the appropriate benefit files.


  • Assists with FMLA and other leave management tracking, as needed.


  • Reconciles all carrier files and provide support for any issues.


  • Provides support for employees experiencing technical difficulties in PlanSource and/or carrier portals.


  • Assists the Manager with faculty life Insurance eligibility, payments, audits, processing, and communications.


  • Processes any retiree or adjunct medical payments.


  • Processes PSER and SERS enrollments and 403(b) changes by entering deductions in Banner and filing documentation in BDM.


  • Processes FSA enrollments and changes on carrier portal and in Banner.


  • Provides level one support for employee claim issues.


  • Assists the department with employee mailings and communications.


  • Assists with special projects as assigned.




Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or the equivalent required.





  • Minimum of seven (7) years of administrative support experience required.



  • Strong customer service skills with a proven ability to deliver exceptional service in a timely manner with appropriate follow-up.



  • Good problem solving skills, and attention to detail and accuracy required.



  • Good interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills required.



  • Proficiency in a variety of software applications, to include MS Office (particularly with Word, Excel), and HRIS or automated HR/payroll system required.



  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple and competing priorities concurrently within deadlines.





Preferred Qualifications
  • Some college level courses in human resources, business administration, or a related field preferred.




  • Previous administrative experience in HR/employee benefits preferred.


  • Experience using the Ellucian Banner system preferred.


  • Basic knowledge of benefit administration is preferred.
