Managing Director - Center for Health Policy and Law

About the Opportunity

The Center is dedicated to advancing interdisciplinary research and dialog on critical issues relating to health law and policy both within the U.S. and globally. Housed within the School of Law (NUSL), the Center's affiliated faculty have appointments across Northeastern University's schools and colleges, and conduct research on a wide array of issues, including public health law, health and human rights, health governance, health care financing, drug law, elder law, law and medicine, intellectual property law, bioethics, and the regulation of the health care system. The Center supports a broad curriculum in health and public health law, and sponsors conferences, lectures, colloquia, and workshops that introduce students to career opportunities in health policy and law.

The Managing Director will provide long-term and day-to-day leadership and management of the Center, with direction from the Center's Faculty Director and in collaboration with center faculty. The Managing Director will have responsibility for developing and implementing the strategic and programmatic vision of the Center, organizing the Center's event portfolio (e.g., lectures, colloquia and conferences), supervising and providing support for one or more staff members, writing grants and supporting the Center's externally-funded research, managing the Center's budget, serving as liaison for the Center's Advisory Board, supporting health law students and scholars, and other Center-related tasks as needed. The Managing Director will also lead efforts to create and strengthen partnerships across and external to the university, particularly for the purposes of expanding the Center's research and funding portfolio, as well as to enhance student access to practitioners and experts in the field of health policy and law. The Managing Director will be responsible for overseeing and collaborating with other departments on tasks associated with internal and external communications (including the Center's social media account), recruitment, marketing, student advising, overseeing student research assistants, and more.

Responsibilities:

Provide long-term and day-to-day leadership and management of the Center including, managing the Center's budget, and supervising staff, advising health law students, supervising student research assistants and interns, overseeing communications, and engaging with other departments within the law school.

Responsible for grant-writing and fundraising to support the Center's activities and research; manage the Center's grant-funded research portfolio.

Organizing the Center's lectures, colloquia and conference

Create and strengthen partnerships across and external to the university, particularly for the purposes of expanding the Center's research and funding portfolio, as well as to enhance student access to practitioners and experts in the field of health policy and law

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
  • J.D. degree or equivalent graduate degree related to health policy and law
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in health law or policy
  • Substantial administrative experience
  • Minimum 3 years supervisory experience
  • demonstrated commitment to diversity
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex facts and ideas both in writing and in face-to-face presentations
  • High level of skill in working collaboratively with individuals and groups


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Event planning experience
  • A significant track record of grant-writing and management is strongly preferred
