Job Summary:
As a member of the executive leadership team the Director, AI+Life Sciences will be responsible for executing the strategic vision for the AI+Life Sciences practice in collaboration with Northeastern University's faculty, various research centers and advisers in life sciences, and the Roux Institute's Center for Computational Medicine and Life Sciences. The Director will effectively collaborate with academia and industry stakeholders to advance the strategic initiatives and establish the Institute as a leader in establishing AI technologies as a strategic tool and capability for research and practice of life sciences.

Minimum Qualifications:

Strong understanding of the professional life sciences industry eco-system and solid network in the life sciences and related industry. Ability to navigate effectively across stakeholders in academia and industry. Ability to generate partnerships, collaborations and business opportunities with industry partners, private and public organizations. Skills in working with donors and experience on raising research funding in Life Sciences. Knowledge and skills required are typically acquired through an advanced degree (MBA, MD or PhD) in relevant fields of studies with strong experience in AI/Data Science and Life Science problems; plus at least 15 years in working in biotech, medical, pharma or related fields with emphasis on computational approaches. Experience with start-up companies strongly preferred, experience in Life Sciences at academia or industry.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
  • Developing the strategy for positioning EAI's AI+Life Sciences practice as global thought-leader to industry and research partners
  • Build and manage a team of specialists including research faculty, research scientists and postdocs who are actively involved in developing projects involving the application of AI to Life Science challenges. Work with the staff and stakeholders to raise future funding for research and applications of AI in Life Sciences
  • Work with academic staff to develop experiential learning programs and courses to train learners on the practice of applying AI to Life Sciences, training talent that has the requisite expertise in AI, Data Science, and advanced computational techniques in the context of Life Sciences.
  • Engage and build strong relationships and partnerships across Northeastern University's faculty and centers engaged in life sciences, healthcare, biotech and bioengineering and other relevant disciplines
  • Develop partnerships and grow the practice across B2B healthcare and life sciences industries, including pharmaceuticals, hospitals and health systems, retail healthcare, healthcare technology, medical devices, diagnostics, drug and therapeutics design and discover, etc.
  • Work closely with the EAIs business development team in expanding the AI+Life Sciences practice, help write proposals, participating in pitch-meetings and negotiating scope and terms
  • Assist in the development of EAIs thought leadership and other go-to-market materials focused on AI+Life Sciences
  • Establish alliances across academia and industry to help make Northeastern University as a leader in the practical use of AI in the science and practice of Life Sciences
  • Identify and help entrepreneurial activities including help spin-off startups or technologies, and participate in growing ventures in the space.
