About the Opportunity

The CoMMLab (https://www.networkscienceinstitute.org/commlab) at the Network Science Institute at Northeastern University is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate in the area of networked justice and open source software development. The Postdoctoral Associate will join a team of scientists working to diversify participation by women, trans, and nonbinary people in Network Science, including using and developing code to contribute to the igraph open source network analysis software package.

Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities will include conducting research on equity in computing with particular emphasis on gender; developing training and development materials for Network Science learners; helping junior scientists contribute to igraph; mentoring women, trans, and nonbinary scientists; and contributing to scholarship about networked inequality. Postdoctoral Associates will be integrated into the vibrant intellectual community of the Institute, including ample opportunities for scientific collaborations, grant proposals, graduate student training/ advising, workshops, and more. The successful candidate is expected to be an active member of our community, by participating in scientific talks, workshops, conferences, and engaging with our doctoral trainees.

Qualifications:

Requirements for the position include a PhD in computational social science, computer science, or a related field. Strong communication skills, teaching/mentoring experience, and experience with programming in C are essential. Successful candidates will have a record of outstanding academic achievement, a demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in STEM, and a record of scholarly publications and/or demonstrated public impact through research. Experience with project management, STEM education, and/or Diversity, Equity and Inclusion training are a plus.

This fully funded position is renewable for up to two years pending satisfactory performance. Starting date is negotiable, beginning as early as Oct 2021. Successful candidates should plan to relocate to Northeastern University in Boston, MA, USA, although the position may start remotely if needed. Compensation is competitive and includes benefits.
