Vice President for Institutional Advancement

Southwestern College, Winfield, KS invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice President for Institutional Advancement.

Southwestern College is a private liberal arts college, founded in 1885 by Methodists in south central Kansas. Today its Winfield campus is the residential hub that guides students to lives of meaning and service, with well-rounded academic and extra-curricular offerings attracting traditional-aged students from throughout the nation and world. Southwestern College Professional Studies provides options for online students in any location and has been named a top provider for persons serving in the military. The college continues to be affiliated with the United Methodist Church and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission to offer bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees.

The Vice President for Institutional Advancement will be the college’s senior fundraising officer, and will work collaboratively with the President to design and execute the college’s fundraising and alumni relations programs.  The Vice President reports to the President and is a member of the college’s Administrative Council of senior administrators.  In addition to leading a staff of seven, the Vice President works closely with members of the college’s Board of Trustees and other key leaders to increase private support for Southwestern College. 

Southwestern College seeks candidates with a minimum of three-to-five years of progressively responsible experience and demonstrated success in advancement work, preferably in higher education.  The successful candidate will be able to lead annual giving, major gift, planned giving, and alumni relations programs and will have experience with capital campaigns.  The vice president will be both persuasive in communication and an excellent listener. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Vice President for Marketing and Communication and the President on all matters related to external relations.  Organization, drive, and a “get it done” attitude are essential.  Residency in Winfield or Wichita, KS is expected.  Bachelor’s degree required, graduate degree preferred.
